How to Snaze up the Garage Steps…Simple Steps For Painting Steps

I must admit, my garage had been looking a tad bit disgraceful for many months now.  Complete eyesore, as in the minute you pulled your car in, you would want to pull it back out. Seriously. If you don’t believe me, ask my car.
So we did a few updates to tidy up the place like building some shelves to help with the organization and painting the walls, but one thing I did that completely changed the way I feel when walking through the door, was painting the stairs. It needed it bad….real bad.

I decided to give the stairs a bit of interest, snaze them up a bit, rather then just going with a solid color. For this project I used black and ‘Aged Beige’, which happens to be the same color as the walls in our garage.

Step 1

First step was to paint the edges black. I used the painters tape to create straight lines.

  Step 2

Next I painted the body of the stairs with the Aged Beige.  I used exterior deck paint since this area gets so much foot traffic. Once that was dry, I added some more painters tape to create an additional black stripe on the stairs.

Once it was all dried, I pulled the painters tape off. I applied a clear protective coat over the stairs for easier cleaning and protection….. although little kids and red Georgia clay, wins every time.

But……. maybe not this time.

How are your stairs looking these days……. time for an update?

Grateful
lovely week in Tennessee with the kids, my mom and sisters

PS-  previously i had used a  paint with texture on the  garage floor and stairs, that I left on and did not sand down. The paint had a bit of grit in it, so that will help to avoid any slips and slides on the stairs. I also keep a rug in front of the stairs to wipe little paws off.

  1. Our stairs leading up from the garage could use a makeover too. However, we have a full staircase since we have a basement garage. (I will never have one again either.) I like how you jazzed up your stairs. You can easily mop those when they start showing dirt.

  2. Laura: I follow you on Bloglovin' and when I read your post today I had to comment. My VERY NEXT POST will be on my garage that my family helped organize just last weekend. I looked at my stairs and thought, well, I have to do something with those stairs, first. Then here comes your post! What luck…do you mind if I use your striping idea (giving your blog credit, of course)? Please visit me at: theoldefarmhouse.blogspot.com and I will be watching your blog for more of your wonderful ideas. HUGS< Joy

  3. It is amazing how a little paint on stairs makes the biggest difference. It looks great! I painted my concrete stairs leading to our front door not long ago and I am shocked how much better it looks. I do not know why I didn't do it earlier. Enjoy your new stairs and welcome back to reality.

  4. Very well done, you must have lots of patience to tape off the stairs as you did, they look so nice, very classy snazzie, lol. Enjoy them.
