Would you believe that this chair in my office with it’s clean classic lines and modern look is 27 years old?  I only hope I am aging that gracefully. It was actually from my sisters first dining room set from Broyhill, and when she opted for something different a few years back, naturally I raised my hand to take it. The table is actually being used in my husbands office here.

When I tell you that any 20 something year old chair can be updated with just a few steps, it’s true. I will show you and  I promise, you will never get rid of those old chairs again. Besides, isn’t everything old new again?

Steps to make an old chair look new again.

For the Chair base- Most seats are removable from the bottom and can be removed with a screw driver. Take your seat cushion off and put aside to recover.
Sand the chair frame, apply some primer and 2 coats of paint. I used SW Pure White on the updated chair with a paint sprayer.

For the Seat Cushion- Measure your seat cushion and add on about 4 inches. This will be the fabric that you will need. Secure the fabric in place with an upholstery stapler or heavy duty stapler. I space my tacks about 3-5 inches apart. Trim away any excess fabric. You certainly don’t want to see the fabric hanging when you look at the chair.

  1. Love the makeover. I love doing chairs. I think they are such an easy redo compared to some projects. -well, except for painting the spindles! xo Diana

  2. I have that same chair but it's in a pine color. I have them slipcovered. They sit at my dining room table. Your makeover looks great! I would've done something like that too if I didn't have them slipcovered.
