Spring Kitchen Mantel using kids artwork

One of the biggest complements I can share with my children, is to display their art work. The sense of pride and accomplishment for their expression and creativity is repeated each time they look at their images hanging throughout the house.  Today, I wanted to share with you how I decorated my spring kitchen mantel using kids artwork.

I love it when the kids bring new art work home from school. To see their creativity and imagination expressed through art is so amazing. Every chance I can to incorporate this creativity in my home, I take it. I will purchase frames when they go on sale so that I can immediately display it around the house. For Spring this year, I decided to  decorate the Spring mantel using Lily’s print as basis for my Spring mantel in the kitchen.

A couple of weeks ago Lily brought home her interpretation of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting that she did in her school art class. That beautiful pink bloom painted by her sweet little hands, went immediately on the mantel in the kitchen.  It’s amazing how your children’s art can inspire your home decor.

Using the colors in the picture, I  added a vase of  pink carnations and a few blue eggs to pull the colors from the painting and to Spring it up a bit.  No frills, just a simple display of beauty to enjoy during the Spring.

  1. Now that is a masterpiece!….The best and sweetest of art are the ones made by children. I treasure each and every piece of art from my son (have a boxful) . . . have not seemed to let it go . . . and to this day, we have one piece framed and hanging on the wall and he is now a father!….So now there are lots of his daughter's art in our home…I so love how you showcase your children's works of love in your home Laura!

  2. Your mantel is so charming! I love children's art and your daughter's flower is perfect for spring. Framing it gives it much more importance that just putting it on the refrigerator door. The arrangement you made is so cheery!

  3. Adorable! Kids art is the best to decorate with. I have a drawing made by my oldest daughter from 7 years ago. It was a Mother's Day gift. I put it in a frame, and it frequently is displayed on our mantel.

What a confidence builder – hanging that art, and having others compliment your daughter! You and she are blessed.

  5. I love it, it looks beautiful. I work at an elementary school and I can't tell you how many times I see their artwork and think I would frame that and hang it in my house! Maybe someday your daughter will put that same painting on her own mantel.

  6. You better watch out Laura, Lilie may be taking over the decorating soon. She is talented and must be proud you made it front and center
