Pergola Project Idea

I have been waiting for this day to finally get here after 12 years, so we can finally begin the first big project of the summer 2015. I am calling it Operation Project Pergola.

Right now after demo this weekend, the current state of the back deck looks like this………

And before the demo took place it looked like this………

you can see more of the before here.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great space, but it is HOT and I can’t begin to tell you the amount of money that I have spent in umbrellas, sunscreen, outdoor fans and popsicles.

Here’s some stunning pergola’s that are creating the vision for our pergola project.

We had always planned to build a permanent pergola structure in our backyard vision, but it wasn’t high on the list of priorities or budget, until now. Until ….. this weekend when we began to demo the area and plan for the new pergola. Materials have been ordered, electrical has been run and we will continue to tackle a bit each weekend, since we are doing all of the work. I hope we are finished by July. With Hope being the optimal word.

I will share updates along the way. Until then, I am eating some popsicles and hanging out over on another deck that gets a bit more shade from the trees or on the front porch here.

  1. Well like usual you are always ahead of me in things. Like painting cabinets and now a pergola. What am I working on…..don't even have flowers in pots yet.

  2. I love pergolas…have one at the end of the veranda/back porch….I just wish it was larger….your backyard is stunning as it stands now and can't imagine you making it even better….The only major thing we will be working on (or the people we hired) will be painting the house…

  3. It is going to look nice Laura. I want a pergola on our deck also but it will have to wait another year (or two). Are you going to do it yourself? Let me know how easy it was to do.

  4. Oh my the Energizer bunny strikes again, LOL. It's going to be spectacular. I can't wait to see. In our new place we don't have to deal with pounding sun . We're thrilled.

In the meantime enjoy the popcicles

  5. Sounds wonderful:) we always hoped we could do something like that as well, but as of now, it's not in the budget. I'm anxious to follow along and see how it turns out!

  6. Oh I can't wait to see everything once it's finished. I know you are going to love sitting out there. I love the look of pergola's! They're pretty with plants hanging from them too. A screened porch will be extra nice too. I know all too well how awful the mosquitoes can be here in GA! They're worst near the woods too (which I know you have a lot of).

  7. We are going to cover part of our deck with a pergola. Can't wait to see yours. Sounds like a big one and quite an undertaking especially with those rather large mosquitoes carrying y'all off!

  8. That is going to be absolutely fabulous! I just love it and can't wait to see it completed. What a great summer project! xo Diana

  9. I know is going to be gorgeous like all the projects in your home! I'll be following and taking notes for when I begin transforming my backyard.

  10. Completely respect your porch! I, like you, live on my southern porches savoring magnificent childhood memories of doing the same with this loved ones agreed and children grown and flown.
