Tea Time Friday

Happy Friday. Thanks for coming over for some chit chat. It’s always so nice to see you!

Call me old fashioned, but I still love to write handwritten notes out. What’s even better, is receiving a little note in the mail…..when you least expect it. I always keep a draw full of pretty note cards and stationary. I picked up these notes cards the other day at Target.  They always seem to have a nice selection at decent prices. Are you a fan of handwritten notes or have you jumped on the technology wagon and prefer a text or email?

So, I had some minor surgery on Wednesday that I told you about here. Everything went well, however there’s nothing more freakier then being fully alert as you are getting cut and sewed up. I have an amazing doctor though, who did his best to distract me with conversation. Still totally weird. Good news,  I should be fully healed in about 7-10 days. PLEASE remember to wear your sunscreen!

When it comes to decorating, I am the most insecure about choosing the right rug for my space.  It takes me entirely way to much time and effort when it comes to making a decision. I have been trying to find a rug for the family room for months now, and last week I finally ordered one and got it in this week.

I love the fun and funkiness of the rug. It was on sale here.  It looks like my kids splattered paint all over, which would not be a far reaching thought. At those prices, I should just go ahead and buy another, just in case they do. Still trying to figure out if this rug will stay in the room or not. My husband was a little surprised that I would pick this one so now of course I am second guessing myself and the rug decision.  I always like to layer a smaller rug on top of a larger rug, so changing it out is easier to do down the road.

Happy Halloween. This was Lily from a few years ago. My Precious Bumblebee.

Lily

We are heading out to the  Trunk or Treat at church tonight, instead of going out tomorrow night. This year Lily is the only one who really wants to get dressed up, the boys don’t seem to care that much.   My husband and I could really care less about Halloween, unless the kids bring it up. Not living in a subdivision or having any neighbors, Halloween is a bit different.  Sadly, the schools have completely removed dressing up and celebrating this time of the year  (not sure who got  offended this time)  which is certainly a lot different then when I was a kid.  Besides, I eat entirely way too much candy.

What are your thoughts about Halloween…and eating too much candy?

Enjoy the weekend and don’t forget to turn your clocks back.

  1. my friend and i were just discussing on our walk our feelings on halloween and how in this day and age of pinterest it’s just gotten to be too much- there are too many events and festivities and it overwhelms. with it on a saturday this year i feel like it’s a 3 day holiday. my kids had parties in school yesterday, then today we have the halloween dance at school (and there is no actual school) then tomorrow we go trick or treating. call me old fashioned, but want a simple one day of fan fare!!!!

  2. My daughter is semi-dressing up for high school this morning. The schools have finally relaxed the no Halloween rules around here after years of strict no’s. Hopefully it will trickle down to you soon too!

And, yes, Halloween is a competitive sport when you’re neighbors are a stone’s throw away!

So glad surgery went okay. The awake thing sounds freaky!

  3. Down here in my part of the South, they don’t celebrate Halloween, they have Harvest Celebration or some such *#@%~they’ve taken all the joy out of childhood! It really makes me sick that adults do that. Remember when the movie Twilight came out? ‘They’ got all up in arms and cried foul! My in-laws were convinced I was dancing at midnight around a fire and worshipping the devil because I liked the books and movies, innocent fun. So sad. My kids are adults now and I’m so glad. I don’t have to worry about it and check my kids’ candy.

Now, back to the important issue….LOVE THAT RUG!

  4. Pretty rug! I usually take forever choosing one…which is why I still haven’t bought one for my family room where we recently installed hardwood floors! Lily looks adorable in her costume! My boys (11 & 9) still enjoy Halloween although the older one will only wear a scary, ugly costume. At least my younger one will still be open to something kind of cute. We get a ton of kids in my neighborhood – usually 80-90 so I have to stock up on candy. Of course, I have been eating way too much of it! Happy Halloween!

  5. Halloween is a high holy day for demonic activity. No kind of celebration is acceptable with this event. I am a grandmother of 10 and want all of my babies to have fun. They play dress up all the time and it’s fun. They have enough worldly influence just walking through any store. Sadly most Christians choose just wink at this (holiday) and join right in.

  6. There are many different opinions on Halloween and everyone certainly has a right to their own opinion. Mine is that it is simply a fun evening for kids to dress up and walk the neighborhood to get some treats. I’m not a big fan of candy any longer because of the sugar addiction, but there are alternatives that can be given. It’s also a great way to meet some of your neighbors because in this day and age, with 6′ privacy fences, auto garage door openers (and closers!!) we don’t often see, therefore meet and greet neighbors 4 or 5 houses down.
I am a grandma too, this will be my 1st Halloween that I won’t have the granddaughters here walking our neighborhood as they’ve recently moved into a new home an hour away. I will miss walking the neighborhood with them and yet I look forward to opening our front door to the sound of little voices calling out “trick or treat” and patiently waiting while I drop a few surprises into their little bags.

  7. Our church has trunk or treat also. We don’t have children, so we enjoy going and seeing the kids dressed up.

I had MOHS surgery last December on my nose. The surgery itself didn’t bother me as I was totally numb. HOWEVER, the numbing shots are awful. I used numbing cream (which I didn’t have for the biopsy – OUCH), which did take the edge off. During the surgery, they cauterized tiny blood vessels, and the smell of that was not pleasant, but I didn’t feel a thing! I have another spot to have taken off, but I have been putting it off 🙁

I am going to be very honest here, I love your home and this room. The blue ottoman is gorgeous, and I personally think the rug takes away from the beautiful ottoman. Love all the pillows/ottoman, etc. but I just don’t see that the rug adds anything, if that makes sense. Again, just my opinion and it really doesn’t matter what anyone else likes!

  8. To me all you see in the room is the rug. It just looks out of place with the sofa and chair, A rug is supposed to ground the room, not disrupt it. Everything else looks great. This is just my professional designer of 25 years.

    1. Ha. My hubby was a bit surprised that I picked this one out as well. The rug that I actually want to get for this space is the Bosworth from PB in blue.It is a bit more subdued. If you get bored this weekend, take a look online and let me know what you think. Have a good weekend.

  9. Glad your surgery went well. I had MOHs surgery last summer on my cheek. That was weird being totally awake and so scary seeing the bandage across my cheek. When I first saw the stitches I cried and thought I was the bride of Frankenstein….would have been perfect for Halloween. The surgeon was amazing and I barely have a scar. You are right about wearing sunscreen….I got this early in my life when baby oil and iodine was the thing to do. No sunscreen when I was growing up.

Have fun at Trunk or Treat. We used to have such great parties on Halloween at school when I was growing up. Parades, games and lot of candy! Hardly even have trick or theater in my neighborhood anymore. It’s sad.

  10. I am thankful for the memories too…Halloween carnival at school–bobbing for apples, cake walk, fishing for treats booth, dressing up. I miss the simpler more innocent fun days. Love your home! That’s my treat, getting to enjoy your posts. And I love handwritten correspondence..another faltering tradition. I still do it though and I have never had anyone tell me they wish I had sent them an email instead!

    1. ahhh….those are the halloween memories I remember too! Thank you so much for your sweet comment. You don’t know how much I appreciate them. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Getting my Lily ready for trunk of treat. My other little guy has a fever and unable to participate so hopefully she will bring him home lots of treats.

  11. We have hundreds of kids treating in our neighborhood…the kids are still dressing up at school….not quite sure why the costumes are slowly being “banned”…. While Halloween is not my most fav “holiday” , I truly love seeing the little ones dressed up in their costumes…not crazy about the teenagers doing their tricks!….Love the gorgeous pic of Lily. And yes, when my hubby says something similar, I start to second guess myself too!
