Quick and Easy Teacher Appreciation Gift…Planter

We start Spring Break tomorrow and before you know it, the end of the school year will be here. Wowza, where did the school year go! I wanted to share a quick and easy teacher appreciation gift idea that I have used in the past and will be using again this year for the kids amazing teachers.

Quick and Easy Teacher Appreciation Gift

This gift idea is so easy to put together. And it’s pretty budget friendly too, which is a great thing if you have lots of kids or teachers that you want to thank.

You start with a terra cotta pot. The size of the pot depends on the plant that you want to include. Apply two or three generous coats of paint. I  use spray paint as a good base, followed by any paint that I have around the house. If the planter is intended to be outside, use exterior paint instead.

To add a bit more interest then just one color, I painted the border around the pot. If you don’t want to create the look of an aged pot ( which is what will happen over time) a good sealer will help preserve your paint color on the terra cotta.

To personalize the planter, I picked up some chalkboard sticks and included a personalize message written with a paint marker. I got mine here. I chose really easy plants to include, just in case the amazing teacher doesn’t have a green thumb. This plant is an English Ivy. Don’t forget to water the plant before you deliver it. If there’s any special instructions on how to care for the plant, you may want to include those as well.

If you can’t decide on what plant to include, I am over here sharing my top 6  indoor plants that would be amazing to include and are perfect for green thumbs….. and the not so green one’s.

I would love to hear if you have any quick and easy teacher appreciation gift ideas. Let me know.

  1. I am a teacher – and I can certainly say that I would LOVE to get that gift: it keeps giving. The only problem I would have would be deciding if I should keep it in my classroom or bring it home to enjoy. I am going to Roger’s Gardens in Newport Beach, CA today. They have some fabulous planters on sale right now. I picked up one for myself yesterday. Today, I am going back to pick up a few for teacher appreciation gifts. Thanks for the great inspiration.

  2. When we give plants to the teacher we put 2 pictures of our child glued back to back on a skewer. Often it will be one that is taken with the teacher. Photos are so easy and cheap these days it becomes inexpensive way to say who it is from and the teacher can throw it away after awhile. I have always loved a plant for a gift because it lasts longer and depending what you get can be planted outside.
