Last Minute Cinco de Mayo Centerpiece Idea

Cinco de Mayo is tomorrow and so far I have shared the salsa, guacamole and the margaritas. Check, check and check. Today it’s all about a  last minute Cinco de Mayo centerpiece idea that will lend so much fun and color to your party.

How fun is this!  You only need some epsom salt, gel food color, water and a zip lock bag for this project. At first I tried this project with river sand that I have on the property but the colors did stick and  look as vibrant as they do with the epsom salt. I plan on trying play sand ( the white fine kind) and I will let you know how it works.

To make this last minute Cinco de Mayo centerpiece idea this is what you need to do:

Put your salt in a bag, add a few drops of food color, and a splash of water. Zip  your bag up and smash to get all of the sand covered with the food color. Your desired color will depend on how much food color you put in the bag.

Open your zip lock bag up and let the salt dry for a bit before pouring it into your glass jars or vase. I went for a layered look using the colors of my table cloth. To achieve this look, just pour your sand in one color at a time, tipping your vase as you go along.

I then took the glass vases and placed them in a tray and surrounded then with rocks. I added in a few faux succulents to give it a tex mex  kinda look.  If you are having an evening party, you may want to place a few candles in the tray as well.
