3 Step Caramel Apples

We are big fans of my 3 step caramel apples around Duke Manor Farm. I mean, who doesn’t love a delicious apple, especially when it’s covered in gooey caramel? Better yet is if I add some peanuts, chips, or our favorite candy to the apple.

3 Step Caramel Apples

What I just love about these  3 Step Caramel Apples is that the kids can make them with me and get creative with the toppings. Although, sometimes the caramel is more than enough to satisfy the sweet tooth in all of us. And the fact that if I have some apples and caramels in the house, I have just about everything that we need to make some up. But if you saw this, you know we are an apple lovin kinda house.

Ingredients:

2 cups of unwrapped caramels ( approx 46 candies)

6-8 cold small-medium sized apples ( I find that the caramel sets better if the apples are cold)

2 tbsp of milk ( I also heard condensed milk works)

Steps:

  1. Wash and dry apples, remove the stem from each apple, and press a craft stick into the top.
  2. Place caramels and milk in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave for 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow cooling briefly.
  3. Roll or dip each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on the wax sheet to set.

Optional: Sprinkle nuts, chips, or another topping. I used chopped nuts on these apples.

Let the apples set in the refrigerator for a bit. Serve caramel apples at room temperature.

Tips for your Caramel Apples:

  • Your caramel apples will stay fresh for about a week. A lot of that will depend on what you coat it with. Cover and put them in the refrigerator.
  • The best kind of apples that I use are Gala and Fuji. We like a crisper apple so we choose these. Of course, just about any apple will work.
  • I use general craft sticks in the apples. You can find them in the grocery store or your local craft store. The idea is that you want something that is strong enough to hold the weight of the apple.
  • If you don’t want to eat the caramel apple on a stick, cut it up into slices. They taste just as good.

All the essentials to make Caramel Apples

I hope my  3 Step Caramel Apples will inspire you to make some caramel apples of your own!

If caramel is not your thing and candy is, then you will love these Candy Apples

  1. This way is the only way I’ve made caramel apples, and tastes plenty fine to me. I don’t do fancy recipes! I truly love those with just a few ingredients I can remember without writing it down!
