How to Repair a Hole in the Wall in 3 steps

As we prepare to give thanks with family and friends later this week, I am giving thanks to getting some much needed projects around the house done during the break. One of them was way to good not to pass up and share amongst the sea of gift guides, last minute thanksgiving table settings and Christmas decorating that are out there. How to repair a hole in the wall in 3 steps. I told you, this is to good not to share. As said in my most serious scarastic voice.

Normally ( but not always)  I take the lazy route out of concealing a nail hole in the wall by covering it up with another a picture. Unfortunately that wasn’t an option when this hole was left behind when we did the room switcheroo that I told you about here. The hole was from running wires through the wall because I didn’t want any wires showing when the tv was hung from the wall. Anyhow, it was a bit bigger then the typical nail hole, so I had to repair it.

  • Identify the problem area. If it’s just a nail hole that you want to patch, just apply some spackling compound over the hole. A hole like mine, will require a patch.
  • apply drywall repair patch- just remove the adhesive piece and place over the hole
  • using your spackling knife, apply some spackle over the patch. Smooth out until there is a smooth even coat. Reply another coat when dry using the same process of smooth and even.
  • using a find grit sanding block, gently sand down any rough edges until the area is completely smooth.

This is after applying one coat of spackle to the area.

If each coat of spackle is applied smooth and evenly, you won’t have much to sand down.

After the hole is sanded down, take a damp cloth to wipe off any dust before you paint.

And while you have your spackle out and making a mess with all the drywall dust, you might as well go ahead and repair any other holes in the wall. You will feel so much better when you do.
