5 Healthy tips to incorporate into your lifestyle

I stay pretty busy around Duke Manor Farm. Whether it’s taking care of the property, projects, the animals or the kids, I always feel like I am always moving my body at a pretty decent pace. Unfortunately, feeding the animals or bush hogging the pastures doesn’t always equate to toning my body and losing a few pounds when needed. Sometimes getting in shape and dieting can be stressful and difficult especially right before the holidays. I have put together 5 healthy tips to incorporate into your lifestyle to avoid that.  These tips will become part of your daily routine and you will see the results that you desire, in no time at all.

Exercise

I don’t care how good I eat, if exercise is not part of my plan, I will not see results. Healthy, strong bodies need both, exercise and good eating. I try to mix up my exercise plan to include gym time and outdoor time. I tend to get bored if I only do one thing. Walk, run, crawl. Just get that heart rate and body moving*.

Set a Goal and be accountable

When I can’t make it to the gym or the track, I use this trail that I created on the back of the property. Having an area close by to exercise takes the excuses out completely. This could also be some sit ups on a mat in the corner of your bedroom or a chair in the kitchen to do some arm work. Just find what that is….and do it*.

Drink lots of Water

This is a no brainer, but so many of us either forget to drink our water, don’t drink enough water or just don’t drink it. Every day our bodies lose water through normal body functions. In order for our body to continue functioning properly we must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water (source). Six to eight 8 ounce glasses is the common fluid recommendation for most people (source).

Get Plenty of Sleep

So much more than having sweet dreams occurs when we are sleeping. While we are sleeping our body releases large amounts of hormones that are essential to your ability to heal and rejuvenate your cells (source).  Ultimately, the amount of sleep you need to be healthy is determined by allowing your body to sleep until you naturally wake up feeling well rested. While the need for sleep is different from person to person, healthiest adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night to function at their best (source).

Eat every 3 hours

Healthy eating is key to a healthy body. Making good food choices is not always easy…I get that. I know foods I love aren’t always consumed in moderation as they should be. So from time to time I need a little help.  By sticking to a reduced calorie, low fat diet I can work toward meeting my goals. What’s equally important is how often we eat throughout the day. Eating more frequently helps to keep your metabolism moving and using that stored food for energy in our bodies. Another tip is to eat your meals on a smaller plate. That way you are eating what the rest of the family is, just a smaller portion
