Holiday Guest Room Readiness

With Christmas next week, and holiday guests showing up, it’s time to be prepared. Let’s talk about holiday guest room readiness….before the guests show up at the door.

Holiday Guest Room Readiness

I love when we have overnight guests at Duke Manor Farm. Depending on who and how long they are staying, I typically will use our guest room in the house. It’s good for a couple nights. For visits longer than that, I put guests in our guest house. I try really hard to make both spaces special. A time away from your own bed, that is enjoyable, relaxing and bit like home.  A little secret, my husband and I have actually talked about turning our guest house into a B&B. #goals.

My guest room is like the little country town I live in. Don’t blink or you will miss it kinda thing. Our guest room use to be an office, so it’s tight….but cozy. I actually think it’s simplicity and size is the rooms charm.  And everyone always loves the light that pours in….just not at the crack of dawn. No problem though, because if the light doesn’t wake you, my kids will.

Holiday Decor

For instant holiday feel in your space, particularly if it’s small , secure a holiday wreath to the foot board. I used some floral wire to secure it to the bed. I also added a colored ribbon for a pop of color. Depending on your foot board or bed situation, command strips would also work. No foot board, hang a wreath on the wall or window.

Special touches

Since we are limited in size in this room, I make sure to only include things that I know my guests would want and need ( which are generally the things that I want when away from home) The side table may include some water, a USB cord, alarm clock, and a phone charger. The tan and white check bedding  in this room is perfect to change out the colors on the throw and pillows. I love how the plum color against the neutral backdrop works in this space.

Just like home

Since there is no room for a dresser in our guest room, we use an armoire right outside the room for our guests to hang clothes and store their stuff. I also like to put sheets and extra pillows in here. Having a robe, slippers and towels in here also makes it a whole lot easier for guests to find. The luggage rack with a tray on top doubles as a side table for odds and ends, that way it can be removed easily.

I think it’s safe to say that regardless of the size of your space, there are special little touches that you can do in your guest room to make your guests feel cozy and right at home….. Just ask my guests.

Sweet Dreams.

  1. I love the drapes and rods …. and the comforter! The colors are natural and easily changed out with just a throw & pillow change. Please tell me where you purchased the drapes, rods, & comforter …. I planning a guest room revamp after Christmas.

  2. Your guest room is lovely, Laura! You have done such a great job of it — and that lovely Christmas decor! A B & B sounds great and you would really enjoy having one!

  3. Hi Laura,

    Your home is beautiful.
I must tell you of the cute item I found at our local store in Cleveland, Ga. It is a
small 4″X4″ pillow suitable for hanging. The saying on it is “HE SEES YOU WHEN YOU ARE EATING”.
I could not resist and bought two, one for each refrigerator upstairs and downstairs. My
friends are rushing out to check if they have any left.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a healthy Happy New Year.
