4 ways to revitalize YOU in the New Year

The start of the new year always seems to bring up the thought of creating new goals or resolutions for ourselves.  A fresh start to wipe the slate clean and focus on a brand new year.   I’ve never been a big fan of resolutions. When I was younger I would always create this grand list of goals. I would always seem to break a couple of them a few weeks into the new year. I would be bummed out for the next 11 months. Feeling like a big loser, patiently waiting for the clock to start over with the upcoming new year.

I’m older and wiser now and of the mindset that it doesn’t have to take a list of new resolutions to help us feel good about who we are or how we look…because after all we are pretty darn amazing anyways. But as I think about how to revitalize me in the new year, it’s not anything new or rocket science stuff, but just the day to day habits that need to be reinforced and applied. #justdoit  It’s about seizing the right moment and making the best of any situation. The new year is all about becoming a stronger, confident and happier you! I can see you smiling already.

Sleep

We all realize the importance of getting enough sleep each night and the powerful benefits it has to our mind and body. How much sleep you need is really up to you and your body. Some require more, some less. I don’t require a lot of sleep to function. However, when I do lay down, I want to be comfortable and get a great nights sleep. We recently traded in our 19 year old mattress for a new adjustable one.  Although, it’s only been 2 weeks , I have slept the best in these two weeks then I have in years. Waking up more refreshed and rested is such an amazing feeling. Good sleep is everything. Because I love this mattress so much, I can’t wait to tell you all about it.  For now, we bought a Beauty Rest.

Exercise

I took the last two months off from my normal gym routine. Each morning I  have been walking a few miles with my husband at the school track. My body needed an exercise change and I needed quality time with my hubby. So it was a win win. It has been a great transition however, walking is not enough for my body. I will be getting back to my normal gym schedule this week and will reserve 2 days a week for our walks.  A walk, a run, yoga or boot camp, it really doesn’t matter what you do, just as long as you do it.  Give your body the gift of taking care of it. I promise that you will feel way better with a workout, then you will without one.

Skin Care Routine

Finding a skin care routine that works for you is so important. I find this to be more true each year that I am getting older. Regardless if you are in your 20’s, 30’s or 50’s like me, having a skin care routine is so important in feeling revitalized and good about yourself. I may switch up my skin care products from time to time (in fact I use a hodge podge of products), but I never change my routine or my focus on keeping my skin looking and feeling good. Something else that is so important, is that you don’t have to buy crazy expensive products in order to keep your skin looking amazing.

Dedicate time to yourself this year…you earned it

I know I shouldn’t have to tell you this but I need to. So many people, particularly mom’s that I know ( directly or indirectly), don’t even carve out 15 mins throughout the week to dedicate to themselves. I firmly believe that my mood and disposition flows over to the family and my interactions with my kids and husband. If I am cranky, my crank will come out, if I am happy, the house is happy. You know how it goes. Something I do is to each day is wake up a lot earlier then the family for my ‘me’ time. No interruptions, no conversations. It’s just my time for me to focus on the things that will help me get my day going in a positive direction. If you’re not carving out time for you currently, you really should.

  1. i do all of these! i win! 😉 nah, but really, i recently added better skin care to my routine before christmas, and it’s made a huge difference. i just use drugstore beauty, because i am cheap, but it’s fantastic!

  2. I started walking again today. I feel so much better when I am getting some type of regular exercise. I try to get enough sleep, but I have found as I have gotten older that my sleep patterns really vary. I have plenty of me time. 🙂

  3. What mattress did you end up getting? We have been needing one and I have been putting it off. I hate mattress shopping!!

  4. I just started going back to the gym too. We have a nice walking trail here and I agree it’s nice to change it up sometimes. Where did you find that cute table by your chair?

  5. I seriously have to focus to take time for myself for sure. I get so caught up in everything else, that “me” is just one more thing that I don’t have time for. Thanks for the reminder, Laura:)
