Pool Side Basket….For a Survivor

My mother is one tough cookie. Truth be told, she is the strongest survivor that I know. She is more skillful then most, at handling some of life’s more difficult occurrences.

Her first bout with Cancer was 24 years ago. Breast Cancer. Very aggressive. But she survived. Although she was put through the biggest challenge of her life, her unwavering will to live, her love for family and strong faith got her through it.

And if that ‘test’ wasn’t enough, she was hit again with another cancer diagnosis in 2015. Lung Cancer. At this point my mom could have easily used the “lifes not fair”, and ‘why me” but she didn’t. She fought and dealt with the difficult circumstance of having cancer again…… and losing part of her lung. But her Faith got her through…….

To yet another ‘cancer’ scare last year in which she was told ( later to find out that it was benign) that her cancer had metastasesed to her bones. This time it required her to have 7 inches of her hip bone removed and several weeks of rehabilitation to be able to walk again. But she’s a survivor. She’s got the will to live, the will to fight and thankfully the time to sit outside and enjoy life.

My mom loves sitting at the beach or by the pool. I put this poolside basket with items from local World Market for her to be able to do just that. I thought some of these items would be perfect in this cream and black straw tote bag.  Included are some  fresh white towels, a  journal, some  healthy snacks, drinks, lotions and the perfect floppy straw hat. Isn’t it darling?

I put some small spa gifts like items that she can use after a day in the sun, in this adorable pineapple pouch. The pouch is perfect to use alone all summer long.

So today, I am blessed and grateful that my mom can sit at the beach or by the pool to eat her snacks, read a book or watch her grandchild. I am blessed that she and other cancer survivors have the amazing capacity and will to cope with this disease. Their ability to regain their physical and emotional strength and turn their misfortune into a gift is beyond amazing. We celebrate you today and everyday.
