The Pool Build (During Construction)

Sometimes I am at the worst at posting progress shots of major projects going on around Duke Manor. I take plenty of pictures while things are going on, just not always the best at organizing the pics and getting them posted. The Pool Build being one of them. And although the pool is technically finished, I wanted to share a few images of the actual construction process with you.

The pool was actually filled on May 19th. 7 truck loads and 5 hours later, my red Georgia clay was replaced by crystal clear water. This was also perfect timing since it was also the kids last day of school. Before I get ahead of myself with landscape, other improvements and completed pool pictures let’s look at what it took to get to this point.

The Pool Build (During Construction)

First we had to decide where in the yard we wanted to put the pool. For as long as we had talked about wanting a pool, this process probably took the longest.  I wasn’t sure exactly where, just that I did not want the pool so close to the house. I also wanted something that would face the lake.

Once we figured our placement we needed to do some work to get the yard leveled out. Since my backyard has a slight elevation we needed to create a few retaining walls. This was to avoid a 5 foot drop to get into the pool. My husband worked so hard every weekend in Jan and February to get this done before the pool guys showed up in March to start the pool.

When the pool crew showed up in March, we were ready for them to do their thing. The first couple of days were spent moving dirt and building up the area around the pool.

It wasn’t long before we had a hole in the ground, the shape defined and the walls went up. Just. like. that.

 I will show you more of our pool build process, including the decking, landscaping and filling it up. All which led up to taking that first plunge into the new pool.  As a bonus, I’ll share how to avoid swimmers ear. Yes, 2 of my kids now have it.
