Fall Decorating Tips for your outdoor spaces

Fall Decorating Tips for your outdoor spaces that will have your favorite areas ready to usher in the Fall Season.

Welcome to this year’s annual Fall Home Tour. I am so glad you are stopping by from The Wood Grain Cottage.  I am so impressed with Shayna’s ability to be caring for a newborn and decorate her beautiful home for this tour. Congratulations to Shayna and Todd! Special thanks to Linda from It All Started With Paint Blog who coordinated this year’s tour.  Not an easy job so her efforts are so appreciated. All the links for the entire week will be at the bottom of the post. You don’t want to miss any of the stops. You can see last year’s tour here.

It only makes sense that I would share my front porch and screen porch with you all today, mainly because they are the first areas in the house to usher in any new seasonal decor changes. Although Fall is my absolute favorite season, my family are outdoorsy people all year, and having comfortable, functional spaces are important. You can read more about Duke Manor Farm, my family, the property, and all our animals here.

Front Porch

This year I veered right of the traditional fall colors and instead included some blue and beige pillows and throws.  A few years ago I did a similar color palette here and fell in love with the softness that those colors can have together and still feel like Fall. If there is anything good about the last 6 months, it’s that you don’t have to run out and buy new. You can shop your home to decorate without spending any money….and not adding to your already rather large pillow collection. Am I right?

I realize when I was taking photos I still had my summer wreaths on the doors. Crisis diverted by just adding some Fall picks that I used in this wreath and creating a whole new look for Fall. I just love it when that happens, don’t you? If you are looking for more easy and pretty Fall wreath ideas click here.

As you can see things are still pretty green around North East Georgia on the trees and on the porch. In a few weeks that will all change. I am excited to see my mums starting to bloom. I finally got smart one year and decided to replant the mums that I buy every year. They are so easy to grow and maintain. I put together some of my best tips for mum care here  and this tip you should do if you decide you want to hold on to yours after the season is over.

Screen Porch

Behind the front porch, the screen porch is our family’s other favorite spot to hang out in during the Fall season. It’s one of the spaces that just feels right any time of the day…or night. We recently put a TV out here so it’s the perfect family movie night spot too.

Other then a few pillow switcheroos, this room is easy to transition from one season to the next. Having a neutral base helps with color changes as well. Speaking of color, these pretty plaid pillows were on the front porch last year and because I subscribe to the rotation theory with my decor, they ended up here this year. You can see how they looked on the front porch here.

I try to keep decor down to a minimum, especially out here so I have less to clean. Besides what more do you really need than a place to sit, a comfy throw, and now our favorite Saturday morning shows on TV while drinking hot tea?

Fall Decorating Tips for your outdoor spaces

I hope you enjoyed touring my front porch and the screen porch and some getting some Fall Decorating Tips for your outdoor spaces. I will be back throughout the next few weeks with more Fall from around the farm so please come back to visit.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. Marty was unable to coordinate this event as she has for many years due to the recent passing of her beloved Jim. If you would keep sweet Marty and her family in your prayers today I would appreciate that. Also if you have a moment, please visit her blog – A Stroll Thru Life . Marty and I have been blogging friends for 10ish years now and she is a dear, kind soul.

Next up on the tour is Amy and her sweet pup Auggie from 11 Magnolia Lane. I love them both!

Enjoy everything the Fall Season has to offer.

Big hugs,

  1. You know that your front porch has always been a favorite. I love seeing how you decorate it for each season. I would sit and rock the day away in one of those rockers for sure. Thanks so much for joining the tours again this season.

  2. Beautiful! I love your outdoor and indoor spaces but they look particularly pretty at this time of year. I hope you have a wonderful Fall and thanks for the shout out for Auggie–you made his day! 😂

  3. Lovely, as always, my friend! I adore your outdoor spaces, especially that front porch! And perfect fix for extending the life … and season … for your wreath!

  4. Laura I don’t know why but for weeks I cannot see the pics on your posts. I can read what you write, but when it comes to the pics, all I get is this little spinning and the pics do not show up. I tried using two lap tops and it is the same thing??

  5. Laura – you’ve done such a gorgeous job decorating for Fall! Your porch always makes me smile and I LOVE your sectional in your screened porch!! So inviting and cozy!
