Easy Chair Makeover using Paint and a Stencil

Here….. you can sit in this chair. My easy chair makeover using paint and a stencil. The chair is all ready for spring time even thought the chair didn’t always look this good.

I bet, if I asked you to sit here in this chair, you would probably say……

No…..  not feeling it? This chair, made by my nephew as a gift, has a couple of color changes, not always with outdoor exterior paint…hence the chippy. Tip, if you don’t use exterior paint ( which really will hold up the best for the outdoors) use a clear protective coat over your finish to protect it from the outdoor elements.
Can’t make a chair, you can find a similar one ready to be painted here.

Okay, here’s the plan for my easy chair makeover using paint and a stencil.
How about if I sand her down and remove any loose paint? And then, I will apply two coats of paint in a fun, bright coral color.

How’s it looking now? Is she good enough to sit in?

Next I will go ahead and stencil the chair with an initial. I will use my projector and trace a “J” on a piece of cardboard and cut out with a knife.  I will apply the template to the chair with tape and paint it a creamy white color.

Using the same process,  I added a decorative border under the initial. Looks pretty, ugh?

Okay , if that’s not good enough for you, I can throw on a few  Spring like pillows that I purchased recently, so you will be extra cozy when you sit down around the property at Duke Manor Farm.

and I think I will also add some beautiful flowers in my monogram vase wrap here.
So tell me, will you sit with me now?

 I thought so.

  2. I have two white adirondack chairs rotting in the grass overlooking the lake. I have to drive by them every time I go in or out and they scream at me to paint them. I wasn't interested till I saw that giant J on yours.

  5. You had me at "coral paint" but the final reveal is even better! I'm heading over now…sounds like it's going to be a little crowded!

  6. I like it all cleaned up for sitting, but I also looooved it in the natural patina. I guess it will better serve it's purpose now than sitting in a garden all alone. Either way, I love it!

  7. Oooh this is lovely! and you just reminded me I scored two of these chairs in a yard sale at the end of last summer for an amazing $6 each! Better get off here and get the paint brush out!

Thanks for sharing and inspiring (and reminding!)

  8. Wow! Great makeover! I love my adirondack chairs – well actually it's down to just a singular chair now. I originally had 4 of them that I got for $75 @ from a guy who made them in his garage that I just happened to drive by on my way home from work one day. That was about 20 years ago when my kids were small. The chairs started out as plain unfinished pine and it gets so hot here in Texas that I wanted something watery & cool to look at thru the kitchen window. I painted each chair a different color of ocean from dark to light & stamped some white shells, starfish and seahorses on the back slats near the top and on the end of the arm rests where you'd set a sweating glass of sweet iced tea or a beer. I also painted one of those little 3 legged tables you buy to put a floor length table cloth on to match the chairs. When the chairs needed a paint job I painted them all white and then sponged on some neon green, neon orange and neon yellow – cuz by this time we were down to 3 chairs. The forth chair rotted & died. Sadly I am now down to one & 1/2 chairs – the 1/2 chair was made into an ottoman from salvaged parts of the neon orange chair but it goes nicely with the neon green chair. When I have to replace the last of my chairs I think I'll start over using your idea. 🙂

  9. Nice job! Giving me ideas (my hubs will probably NOT be happy I found this! – LOL!)
    Hugs and Happy Easter –
    Carol
