Are you a napper and……..my master bedroom reveal

For the record, I am envious of people who tell me they can take naps during the day…… and really envious of the one’s who can do it with noise and distractions around them and a smile on their face.
Like my dear husband, it can be a Sunday afternoon and he’ll say “Honey, I will be in the family room taking nap”…..seriously.   For a couple of hours at any given time of the day they can just lay down, or sit up in a favorite chair (like my husband) and close their eyes…….smiling.  I think he calls it a “catnap”.
Whatever he calls it …….. it’s blissful napping at it’s best.

Since I was born I have never been able to nap, just ask my mother and my kindergarten teacher, they’ll tell you. My mind just wanders, over thinks and can never settle down. Something that I thought would have changed with age, but unfortunately hasn’t.

But lets just say that I was like my husband and many of you, and could take a nap in the middle of day. I wonder what would help me close my eyes and not think of the laundry, paying bills and what I was cooking for dinner.

So I started with “neutralizing” my bedroom and changing the color of the walls. Here is the space before some of my nap changing tactics took place. You can see more of the room here.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the color that has graced those walls since we moved into the house ( Palladium Blue from Benjamin Moore)  but remember…… I am not good at napping so I needed something a bit more soothing and restful. You can read more about my paint and ceiling journey here  and my advice for hardwood floors here.

And since I was after calm, I changed my bedding and curtains. I went with all white. Not only does it create an environment of tranquility, this change allows me to introduce color throughout the year..Besides, I need to under stimulate my mind….remember?

And I suppose if I could take a nap sitting in a chair like my husband, my love seat would be just perfect. Sitting there surrounded by all those windows and natural light. Perhaps that’s the problem, you think?

Other then the wall color, bedding and curtains everything else remained the same in the room. The total cost for my nap changing tactics came to about $350.00. With most of the cost being in the paint.

And although I have yet to “nap” in my newly decorated space,  I can say that I am able to smile when I am looking at my room ….with my eyes open.
I’ll be sure to let you know when they are closed.

I have since added some monograms to the pillows on the bed. I made the pillows and went to a local place that monograms. This is less then it would have cost if I ordered the pillow with the monogram on it.

Now I can close my eyes.

So tell me, are you like me or my husband when it comes to napping?

Grateful for~
To be able to lay my head on my pillow each night and thank god for the many blessings in my life.

  1. I've been known to nap….on occasion. Typically it doesn't come easy. Your room is gorgeous both ways! I have light colored walls in our bedroom and am thinking of painting them a darker color. I tend to think darker room, more relaxing, but that's just me. My husband is not a napper either. I wish he would sometimes. I love seeing all of the pictures of your gorgeous home. Have a delightful day!

  2. I am definitely like you, Laura. I am not a napper, but I do envy those who are. Your bedroom is now so lovely and serene that I can definitely picture some napping in your future. xo Laura

  3. Beautiful, Laura! I love all of the natural light! What a soothing room! (And yes, I'm a napper, but the older I get and the more full our schedules become with the kiddos, I find it harder and harder to turn my mind off or not to feel like I should be up and doing something. LOL!)

  4. Its amazing how much difference a color change can make; while I too love the Palladium Blue I can imagine with all that wonderful natural light illuminating the space the wall color could at times be distracting. Not good for napping or sleeping. Yay for your dedication getting it all painted! Now the natural light actually feels "light" in the room and boy does the terrific detail of your bed come through too. For what its worth napping doesn't happen for me either and most nights I also don't sleep well. I've begun a meditation practice and there's the slightest hint that this habit could help me learn how to stay in the moment enough to slip into sleep. Fingers crossed! Robin

  5. Beautiful! Soothing, calm. Love the ceiling and the loads of windows bringing so much light into the room. Your bed is gorgeous! I'm not a napper because if I take one, I can't sleep that night. And a little, I think, because I'm like you and my mind is thinking of lots of fun things to do during the day ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Gorgeous…before AND after! I'm in the process of re-doing my master bedroom so I greatly appreciate the inspiration. Oh…and napping…I "ain't" got time for that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Your room is stunning! I just scrolled up and down a couple times to take it all in. What a calming space! The only time I can nap is when the kids and I have some quiet time after a day at the beach. We will snuggle together on the bed to read for awhile and sometimes I am able to close my eyes and doze for a few minutes. Once again…love that bedroom!

  8. I am right there with you! I've never been able to nap, and I am so envious of those who can. You have created such an inviting, soothing space in your bedroom that I foresee a restful nap in your future ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I'm not sure where I fit in. I *think* about napping all the time but rarely do it. Not sure if it's because I can't or don't. But I'd give it a try in your room, for scientific purposes.

  10. Very pretty, I love all the light that comes into your room. I would love to be a napper but never seem to even have the time to get more than 5 hours a night. Beautiful space:)

  11. I can take a nap but I can't fall asleep with a lot of noise around me. I don't nap long but when I do it, which is not often, I do feel rejuvenated. I love the new color on your walls, so pretty.

  12. How beautiful. WE just neutralized the master as well. Actually we are doing it to the entire home. Such a calmer vibe.
    Luv the linen!!!
I am a napper ๐Ÿ˜‰ In the middle of the day… couple of hours before bed… If I feel tired, I plop, and trust me.. I am wound so tight during the day, I am gone before my head gets comfy on the pillow. This did not happen until the boys were grown mind. A pretty new development.
Hope the calmer bedroom makes for pleasant naps!
    Hugs, Gee

  13. I am so with you my friend…no naps for me either…not since I was about 1 1.2 : ) but if I were to take a nap…that gorgeous room would be one that I would love to snooze in : ) that is for sure…it is a totally gorgeous and oh so happy space! Your design sense and taste is picture perfect and everything you do is amazing and that is because you do it with your whole heart : ) So here is to those with a wandering mind!!! 3 cheers and 3 cheers to you for just being awesome!!!! hugs…

  14. I am in the middle of a master bedroom re-do…and am so inspired by your space. Love the white! Love how the windows look with the curtains…did you share your rod info and curtains? Would love to know!

  15. I am like you- I have NEVER been able to nap…unless I am REALLY sick and even then I barely do it. MyHero can take to the bed and be asleep in less than 3 minutes (I've timed him) and can sleep for HOURS-get up and eat and then go to bed early. Actually, it kind of drives me nuts! lol

Your bedroom is gorgeous. Very restful and peaceful. I loved it before, too. It's a beautiful room no matter what colors you choose- xo Diana

  16. I can't nap during the day either – unless I'm sick, of course. And sitting up?! Never. I have to say that your bedroom is seriously one of the most beautiful bedrooms I have ever seen. WOW.

  18. Love the renewed tranquil bedroom. You have created a wonderful, peaceful space. Like you, I can't do the whole 'nap' thing. My husband though, has it down to a science. He can rest his eyes anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours and wake up fully refreshed and ready to go.
    Warmest Regards,

  19. Wow, what a beautiful transformation! I love every single thing you changed (and kept the same) in this space! So, so pretty!

ps- I think I could manage a little nap in a space so inviting, ha! =)

  20. Lovely room! What I love most about it are all the windows for natural lighting and oh, my gosh…love your vaulted ceilings. We have vaulted ceilings also but I adore the tiers that yours has, ours are just two tier.
Visiting you from Met Monday, stop by for a visit when you can.
    Have a grand Labor Day!

  21. Your bedroom is just beautiful, Laura. I am a cat napper. My husband can sleep for hours and still sleep at night. I try to rest during the day (which is usually 20 minutes of nodding) and I still have insomnia. Sleep is so vital and can be so hard to get! But I definitely would like to try to nap on that love seat. Beautiful job, Laura!

  22. Oh it is calming! I would love to know what color you painted it. I am going much of the same…..
    I love your bed, beautiful…..
Yes, I am one who can take a nap, even sitting up in a chair….

  23. Beautiful!!! And I feel so blessed to have seen this amazing room and your gorgeous home in person! It is just so soothing and peaceful, and even though I'm not much of a napper either, I think I could take one in this room! ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Suzanne of Simply Suzannes at Home

I love the peaceful feel of your room.
Our bedroom is also a soft, soft blue. It has such a calming feel . . . just like yours.
    Beautiful, just beautiful.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Suzanne

  25. Hey Laura! You visited my FB page the other day…now Karianne is telling me about you! I love this post! I am definitely a non-napper….nap deprived. My husband can also go back to sleep if he is awoken too ealry in the am. Me I am up, UP, UP!!
    Glad 2 have found you!
    Kelly

  26. Absolutely beautiful! It looks very calm and peaceful. Depends on what's going on with me whether I nap or not. I have a LOT of difficulty sleeping at night so if I'm really exhausted I can take a "power" nap and be ok. I hesitate to do that though as I'm afraid I won't sleep that night too. ๐Ÿ™‚ If I don't feel well, yes I can nap!

    xo
