My Laundry BFF …..and a giveaway

Here’s the reality of my life and specifically of my laundry situation…I need all the help I can get.   I am not necessarily talking about putting the laundry in the washer machine and promptly moving it into the dryer, which of course would be super nice of you if you are offering, since there’s a few piles on the laundry room floor ready to go.  I am talking about help with getting my clothes clean.  And not from the occasional peanut butter and jelly sandwich smear, I am talking about from the Red Georgia Clay, and lots of it!
Unfortunately, red clay is inevitable and a fact of life if you live in Georgia, and it seems to intensify when you live in the country and have 3 active children and a husband who are forever outside…getting dirty.  Since there is no way I will stand in the way of my children appreciating the outdoors, I need to find help with getting the laundry clean.
Tide has always been my detergent of choice and now Tide Pods are my new laundry BFF.  I know that may sound silly, having a laundry BFF, but when you need as much help as I do, having a laundry BFF to support you is good.  I mean who wouldn’t want a BFF that cleans, fights those stains and brightens all in one.  Tide Pods does that. 
I especially like that I do not have to measure and pour the detergent in the washer anymore.  My BFF is easy, just toss a pod in the load and start. This is a picture of my BFF.

  1. A college friend's mother was a chemist and she always did their laundry with the philosophy of for every action there's a reaction … using an element to neutralize the stain. So that's my reason for serving both red and white wine at gatherings (I pretty much stick to red myself) … if there's a red wine spill **immediately** pour white wine on it to neutralize, allow that to soak in, blot do not rub as much liquid out as possible, and if the item is washable use a solution of water and household ammonia for the final neutralize. Then launder one more time as normal. If white wine spills go straight to the blot, then water and ammonia, and then a regular wash.

  2. Tide pods are my favorite too. Unfortunately, I never seem to have a coupon for them though. I'm VERY particular about stains on clothes. I sometimes find a stain left behind after I've washed them, and then use Spray & Wash spray on the stain. I re-wash it and usually that does the trick. That is my tip of the day! LOL!   3. I'm using a computer in the apt business office as mine is "sick". Just wanted to stop in and say "hello" and see your decor. Love the lights!! The walkway/driveway is so beautiful. I much prefer the warmer, white lights so let me know your thoughts once the bill comes in. 🙂 I have a small balcony but every bit counts.

    Not a lot of laundry hints to share….I love using baking soda in the rinse cycle. Really helps with refreshing towels, sheets, etc. Of course, you can add it at the beginning too. 🙂

  6. I have been a tide user for 30+ years! until I started making my own liquid detergent! Which I love, love, love! The savings is just ridiculous. I use the Duggar family liquid detergent recipe. But I do get the Tide pods for vacations and business trips. Very handy for extended stays in condos or hotels.

  9. I don't have any secrets…if my kids get stains on stuff I just put some detergent (liquid) on the spots for 10 minutes or so before washing…that usually does the trick!

  18. I always use Tide (never cheap brands, they just aren't worth it) and I use those wool dryer balls. They are fantastic; they make the drying take half the time and everything come out so nice.

  22. Not a US resident, so therefore not eligible to win the prize, but here are 3 laundry tips…
    1. Pre-treat a stain by wetting the spot and then rub with a Fels Naptha soap bar before laundering.
    2. Red wine or berry stains will disappear if you pour BOILING water through the outstretched spot.
    3. Pre-treat grease stains by wetting the spot and then rubbing Lestoil on it before laundering.

  23. Hoodie's I turn inside out to wash to keep the designs from fading in the dryer. To keep the stains from setting, I spray any stains as soon as the kids take their clothes off, Laundry day I sort the lights and the dark's and wash in cool water. I like the ideal of the pod's, no need to pre-measure and no spills to clean up.

  28. My laundry tips is use cold water..yup, on all colors, white, black, mixed colors, everything. That really save energies and make no difference on the result. Gotta love Tide Pod. 😉

  30. My Granny always had the whitest whites.. She would soak them over night in a full wash with a cup of vinegar. In the morning she would add soap and finish the wash. No one can get whites as white as she did. Oh I have tried..

  34. Here's my tip: If you have ball point or marker ink stains, spray cheap hair spray on them before laundering. It comes right out!

  40. My tip is to add a little bit of baking soda to help make your clothes brighter and whiter.

  54. Always wash in cold water unless you are dealing with major dirties. All available detergents work just as well in cold as they do in hot water and you will save electricity/gas which equals money!

  76. I wash colors in cold and carry a Tide to go pen in my purse for pretreating stains when away from home always wash whites and towels in Hot and bleach also

  98. Dawn dish detergent is a great stain remover. Just rub some into the stain and the stain will almost always comes out after it is washed. It's especially good for grease stains. Thanks for this contest.

  103. I will pass on a tip I just found out about. My kids always throw clothing in the laundry wet. By the time I wash and dry them, they always have a weird smell (just like some of my towels), Now when I wash clothes I add vinegar in where the bleach goes, and the smell is gone

  112. Treat stains right away! That tip has saved many of our favorite outfits! Tide Pods make it easy to just toss it in the washer and take care of it! Love them!

  120. Always separate your whites from the colored clothes, wash & dry everything, and then hang them up right away so you don't have a bunch of wrinkled looking clothes.

  138. My best laundry tips are to do the laundry on the weekend. Also try not to let it pile up too much so it doesn't become overwhelming.

  141. When my son played baseball (in white pants, of course) I had a woman tell me that if you soak the clothes in a solution made with dishwasher detergent, the stains would come out. (and making a paste of it and rubbing it in was even better) Maybe this would help on red clay?

  147. The tide pods are great for people who live in apartment complexes or other areas with a community laundry. It's so nice to bring a pod or two instead of a whole bottle of laundry detergent.
