The Project of the Summer- Lake House

The Project of the Summer- Lake House

I have only done a few projects this summer which has been wonderful because honestly I have never felt more in touch with my kids, husband and household. If something was to get done, it was on “summer time”…… similar to, island time.  But there is one project that I have really been looking forward to since the summer began…….

The kids and I are packing up and heading north to Tennessee, to spend some time with my niece, sisters and mother at this beautiful house. While I am here, in between lake time and celebrating the twins birthday, I will be revisiting a few rooms that need some decor updates.
This house is so special to me (and no, I do not own it but get to stay when I want…family perks) because I was there at the beginning of the building process, when it all started and looked like this.

That’s me…notebook in one hand, phone in the other overseeing the stair installation. My sister lives in another state so having somebody relatively close was ideal during the construction stage…. which was very slow. Island time, except in the mountains. Where the closest Walmart and Piggly Wiggly are one hour away.
And here I am below, 8 months pregnant with the twins …. house almost finished.

we will miss dad

  1. Woooo, do you get to stay there while you're working on it? Gosh, that is a gorgeous view! I'm really more of a mountain girl than a beach girl. You can keep that hot sun, all that sand that gets EVERYWHERE, and the smell of fish…yeah, one day of the beach and I'm ready to pack up and go home. I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd much rather go to the mountains. A winding stream, shade and sun interspersed, the wind in the pines, the view of the mountains….SIGN ME UP!~~Dee

  2. What fun!! Sometimes it's easier to decorate someone else's place than our own. The view is wonderful and what inspiration from your surroundings.

  3. Beautiful home!!!!! Do you rent out??? Lol that's my dream too, a lake or mountain home. But being in IL lake would be more realistic, no mountains too close. I agree with Dee, give me a forest and a lake. I like the beach too, but I'm more a woodsy gal.

  4. Now that's not fair, a working vacation in that incredible house? Think there are a few of us that might just be a tad envious. Wow that's quite a house and the views? phew. So gorgeous. Will really look forward to seeing what you do with the rooms. Can I have that gorgeous quilt on the bed and shams? love it. Have a great time Laura, enjoy it while you work hard. Poor Dad. Homecoming will be happy.
