Decorating using Neutral Elements

I am back this month with my challenge to decorate my coffee table 3 different ways, using items that I have around the house and decorating using neutral elements.

My mantra and approach when I decorate is to use what I have in and outside of the home, to make stylish home decor ideas come together. This months challenge to style my coffee table and decorating using neutral elements, does just that. Last month, it was all about using items that tell a story. You can see that table here.

Wood

My inspiration for my design was from this gorgeous wood bowl that I have.  Filling it up with something unexpected and whimsy like these over sized glass bingo like balls, adds a fun conversation piece… although my kids love to roll them around the house and think they are a toy.  The bowl would make a gorgeous statement not filled with anything as well.

Flowers

I used a neutral colored trey and placed  a cache pot filled with some bunches of Alstroemeria that I picked up on clearance at my grocery store, for the price of a candy bar. If you want a pretty and long lasting fresh flower, these are it.

I have learned to always ask your floral department if they have any flowers that they need to get rid of or that they can sell to you at a reduced rate . Floral departments would rather sell to you then to have to throw them away.  Just saying.

Texture

Another neutral elements I used, and to tie the neutral wood theme together, I placed a piece of drift wood on top of my books. Using drift wood in naturally gray wood tones in your decor, is very easy to work with and will complement most color palettes.

It’s a simple but pretty look, that mixes a bit of the inside with the outside together. The best of both worlds styled on your coffee table.

Now….. if I could only get the kids from playing with those balls.
How are you using what you have to create stylish spaces in your home?

  1. Really pretty!

You are so right about alstromeria…we have two vases from one bouquet right now that have been around for at least two weeks. If my cat would just stop eating them they'd last even longer. 🙂

  2. Love the neutral pallet here. I'd love to come pick all of this up and put it on my table. 🙂 I might be making a trip to pier one, the balls are my favorite. XO

ps. This is not a complaint but I want to tell you that the pop-ups that come across your screen come one after the other and I have to click out of each one to read the content. Just thought you might want to know-
