From Drab to FAB
Looking back at my posts, I do not see where I showed you the before and after of my drab to fab furniture makeover using chalk paint on an old pedestal dining table that I picked up at a garage sale. I refinished the piece using chalk paint. Remember this was the table that I practically got for free and did’nt know how I was going to use it when I bought it? I am calling it my drab to fab furniture makeover project.

As soon as I saw the table I knew it had real possibilities. I loved the weight and structure of the table. Basically, I sanded it down lightly and then applied 2 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk paint in Old White. For a slight distressed look , I sanded down the edges with 220 grit sanding block. The last step was to apply a wax to the table top.

Lesson for today is never pass up on something that may not look “pretty” or looks old and drab. If you do, call me and I will come buy it!

wow, it's gorgeous! I am in the market for a table just like that but I have been foolishly looking at furniture stores for a brand new one. I think I will check out some treasure shops tomorrow.

i have that exact table!!! tell me: what exactly is the maintenence of the table now? how often does it have to be re-waxed? how to you clean it in the meantime? it looks beautiful.

I have that EXACT table!! It was my husbands in college. We left the table natural and painted the chairs a distressed black. I am scared to much to it b/c of kids. I have three too but mine somehow are rather distructive despite my constant teaching to respect our things!

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw your keeping room round table. I just finished a table for my daughters eat in kitchen and it was the exact table and believe it or not, I used the Paris Grey Annie Sloan undercoat and white on top and the distressing was almost identical. It looked like we stood side by side and pointed to the spot to distress. The only difference was I used grey on the skirt and didn't cover it. Happy painting.
We used to have two pedestal tables. One was an antique that I sold 4 years ago, the other was my moms, but not antique, that now lives at my son's house. How do I ask for them both back… I knew not what I did!
