How to take the “diner” out of the sign!
Once upon a time I loved this sign that I picked up at a second hand store for next to nothing. I loved the colors, the size and the words. But the more my 6 year saw the sign, and started to read simple words, the more he believed it was true and so I slowly began to resent that the sign.
So it was time to make a change before my twins learned to read and catch on. Since the sign was a good filler for the space that it was in, and serves as a hot spot for the family computer area, I decided to give it a quick makeover.
Here’s what I did:
Applied 1 coat of Black Spray paint
Sanded down any raised lettering with a fine grit paper and repainted with another coat of black spray paint.
Applied some white lettering spelling out FAMILY
bought some cute magnetic numbers
And here you go. No more Denny’s!
Little good the sign did though, my kids still think they can sit at the counter and yell call out food orders!

When you think about it, kids don't really know what a "diner" is. My 19 year old son STILL does that! And that is because I've let him get away with it. Boy, to be able to do it over again…..

Well it's darn cute with the redo. Today one son asked me what was for dinner as I was cleaning the kitchen. I said, I have no idea. Then I said….. seems everyone here knows how to cook, it's the cleaning up part no one knows how to do!

Glad I'm not the only short order cook around! My twins are 12 – and they love ringing our little diner bell when foods up!
