Project Kitchen Cabinets Update

Well, the cloud of latex paint that surrounds the kitchen area has cleared up,so I can find my way to my office and sit down to share an update on the progress of the kitchen cabinets.

What a job…no joke. This is the most labor intensive project that I have ever done….not including when we painted the exterior of our home, which was equally involving.

And, as involved as this project is and as dirty as the house got….no regrets at this point.
And, after this weekend when I saw the base cabinets finished, I feel like we are on the home stretch, but the truth is we probably have another couple of days to complete the sanding, priming and spraying of all of the cabinet doors.

Because my husband and I have been using the weekends to complete this project, that puts us into March sometime. And if I time it just right, maybe around St.Patrick’s day where I can celebrate with a big pint of green beer when we are done. 
Which would be totally awesome, except……

I don’t drink green beer.
But at least the cabinets will be finished.

  1. You know I'm going to paint my cabinets, but you could never get me to drink green beer! You are off to a lovely start, but I need some details girl! Did you paint these with a brush or a roller, or did you spray them? Any special tips for painting inside cabinets? If my bases look half this good, I'll be a happy girl.

Oh be still my heart…how fabulous they look!…Unfortunately, there is no painting of cabinets in this household…I think I would have to buy another house just to get my "lighter kitchen"…but I am working on at least having the island painted!…Can't imagine how much work is involved…you two are doing a magnificent job!…

  6. I am gearing up to prime and paint my cabinets in the next few weeks. Wish I was almost done like you are. It seems getting started is the hardest part of any job and I have really been dreading this one but I think I am finally ready to get this one behind me. Any pointers on paint brand, sheen or finishing products? Can't wait to see yours when their finished.

  7. I so, so, so want to do this! Are your cabinets maple or ash? We have very similar granite and seeing how your kitchen is coming together so beautifully is more confirmation that I should get my rear in gear and get painting!

  10. You are inspiring me! We are considering buying a house that has a bad case of "Over-oak" in the kitchen. If we buy it, will you come paint the cupboards? I have green beer…and wine.

  11. Oh it's look so good! I can only imagine how much work is involved to do all of that. At least y'all are taking your time to do it right. It will pay off in the end. You're going to feel like you have a brand new kitchen!

  12. You could of saved yourself so much time and money if you would of gone with Giani Granite Cabinet Paint.. I did my cabinets in both of my bathrooms and they look awesome now it's time to tackle the kitchen..
