Weekly Hangout at Duke Manor Farm Vol 2

Weekly Hangout at Duke Manor Farm including my lighting dilemma, my latest project update, favorite hair products and what I’m watching these days.

Welcome to my weekly hangout at Duke Manor Farm! Would you believe it’s snowing outside my window? Yes,  in Georgia we are having a legitimate snowstorm. Actually it’s been snowing all day and according to the weather will continue until early this evening.

I can handle all the snow we are going to get, it’s the ice and power outages that I can do without. In fact, not a few hours into this storm we had a tree down across the driveway that we had to cut up and move… although no one is leaving the house today…and it’s a long weekend.

Lighting Dilemma

I ordered this beautiful light from  here  and guess what….it’s just too big for the room. I was so excited about the light (and the price) that I didn’t even check the dimensions. I just clicked the buy now button. I am considering swapping out the light above the kitchen table or just returning this one. I am definitely on the hunt for something else that doesn’t hang as low and block the view when you come into the space.

Wellness

Weekly Hangout at Duke Manor Farm

Unfortunately my first outing after my surgery was to the dermatologist office to have Mohs surgery last week. During my yearly skin checkup in November, I had an area on my inner thigh that they biopsied and it came back squamous cell carcinoma.  You can ready about the different levels of skin cancer here. Since it was detected and treated early I should have no further issues.  8 stiches later ( I’ll get those removed in a couple of weeks) I got the all clear. I mention all this to say….make your appointment today to have your body checked by the dermatologist if it’s not all ready on your calendar.

Every time I post pictures of my hair I always get questions about products that I use. I swear by this shampoo and conditioner to keep my highlights from looking so brassy between my appointments. If I could use only one product for the rest of my hair life it would be Moroccanoil. It tames my naturally curly hair and makes it super shiny and straight, with the help of my hot iron. Besides it smells really good too.

What I found interesting this week

I thought this bowl would be a fun and easy DIY craft to do and the tutorial was so well done.

I so needed to stumble upon this article. I am going to try this experiment this week. I’m curious, do you have the same problem?

Although I was not familiar with the brand, I found this  documentary very intriguing. It’s worth the watch on Discovery Plus  if you have a few hours.

If you are looking for a medium size air fryer, I bought this one a few weeks ago. My kids are still getting use to less oil on their fries (and not really happy about that)  and I can’t wait to experiment with homemade donuts in the fryer. Tonight we are actually going to use the Air Fryer to cook a pot roast.

I’ll keep you posted on some the dishes that I use it for. In the meantime, give this newbie some of your best tips and dishes in the air fryer.

Have a good rest of the weekend!

  1. I love your blog. I am from Ga. but my family and I now live in Alabama. We also had just a small amount of snow this morning but mostly rain. I was wondering about your new pot you bought. Is it similar to an Instant Pot? I love my instant pot. I like the way your’s looks. Thank you for sharing interesting information.

  2. Your hair does look great. I actually would love to know what formula they use to do your highlights. I am 69 and just starting to go gray. Normally a mousy brown and really could use a little oomph especially to get through the summer.
We’re in NJ and waiting to see what the storm brings us, nothing yet.
    Have a great week!

  3. Buy an olive oil sprayer on Amazon. Makes using olive oil in my air fryer cooking so much easier. Try doing baked potatoes in it- spray the skins with olive oil and sprinkle on sea salt and the skins turn out crispy and they are so good! Also, hamburgers turn out good when the weather is too ba for grilling .
My son made deep fried Twinkies in his air fryer, but I haven’t tried that yet, lol. That might make your kids like it more.
