Weekend Hangout at Duke Manor Farm

Happy Weekend! Hard to believe January is behind us. If anyone finds out where time really hangs out, let me know. I am still trying to create a routine that allows me to get it all done ( work Mon-Thursday, spend some time writing the blog, and the household management). Sadly, although I have lots to share, the blog has not received that much attention lately. I hope you will hang in there with me, as I know this will eventually change.

A place to see in North Georgia

This is a little embarrassing, but after 25 years in North Georgia, I had never been to Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville Georgia. Not only is it Georgia’s tallest waterfall, but it’s also the southernmost point of the Appalachian Trail. It’s about 600 or so steps directly up to the waterfall and worth every step.

Projects

It’s been a while since I have refinished a piece of furniture, but I really like how my 30-something-year-old credenza turned out. I still have one little hardware hole to fill, but I love the new cabinet hardware. Since I refinished the piece right in my office, I ended up using citristrip to remove the paint layers. I hope to share a tutorial and office reveal soon. until then, you can see how I did the counter in my dining area here.

Spoiler….here’s what it looked like 10 ish years ago when I painted it a light blue.

Farmlife

A few years back we stopped making the yearly pilgrimage to the feed store to buy baby chicks. Every since then we hatch our own eggs using an incubator. The process is quite simple and remarkable. This is an image of candle lighting an egg to check on growth and development. We have a couple of weeks to go before I introduce you to the newest chicks at Duke Manor Farm.

Things I have bought lately

  • I decided to try a less expensive purple shampoo for my hair and this one works just the same….and costs less.
  • My son has extremely sensitive skin and this is the cream that our dermatologist suggested ( they even sell it in the office, but I found it cheaper on Amazon). Highly recommend this stuff.
  • I am on the Noom wagon again ( more of that for another time) and this kitchen scale is awesome for measuring out food.
  • With sore joints, I am hoping this stuff works.

I hope you have an amazing Sunday!
