Deck The Halls Holiday Inspiration Tour

Well I finally got the last piece of the pumpkin pie taken care of ( I’ll never tell) and the turkey leftovers put away, so in my mind, that means I can finally start sharing some holiday inspiration. For some reason, staring at a pumpkin and thinking about the tinsel on the tree just sounds so…..confusing.

This is a fun 2 day holiday tour with 11 other bloggers, with lots of holiday decor inspiration and who I would drink eggnog with any day! You can find the links to the tour at the bottom of this post.

Today I am decking the halls in a rather bright illuminated way and not inside……. but outside.
There is one area of our home that gets some attention before we carve the thanksgiving turkey, and that’s the outside lights. Although we put them up on November 23rd, we don’t have the ceremonial lighting festivities until the day after thanksgiving. The family will walk up and down the driveway more then several times just oohing and aahing over that magical site of the lights.

This year we expanded on an idea we did last year. You can read the details and get the tutorial here.  My husband affectionately calls it the “tunnel of love” as the arches expand over 800 feet of our driveway. I like to think it is more like a ‘ labor of love’, as it took a good day to complete with the addition of 5 new arches and stringing new LED lighting on all the arches.

And thanks to a tip from an awesome reader, we used rebar to reinforce the PVC pipe arches from whipping around in the wind. Just pound the rebar into the ground and place the ends of the pvc pipes right over the rebar.

This year we also traded in the white icicles that hung on the house for LED ones. And although LED lights are more efficient and last longer then the traditional outdoor holiday lighting, I still prefer the soft glow of the traditional white lights. But I will wait and see how ‘bright’  my electric bill is at the end of this month before I make any decisions about next years lighting plan.

Regardless of what lights may or may not be hanging on your home this year, I hope your holiday is the brightest yet!laura_black

  4. Beautiful! I would definitely hold on to that husband of yours. The "Tunnel of Love" was not just a Christmas decoration . . . it was a dedication of his love for you. God bless you both and Merry Christmas.
