DIY Boxwood Wreath
One of the prettiest wreaths out there is a boxwood wreath. What’s even better, is when you can make the boxwood wreath yourself using boxwood clippings from the yard. Which means, easy to make and practically free. Today, I am going to share a few simple steps on how you can make your own DIY Boxwood Wreath.
Since my goal this year was to incorporate as many natural elements into my holiday decor, that you can see here, using my boxwood clippings from my yard were first on my list.
Supplies needed for the DIY Boxwood Wreath
contains affiliate links
Boxwood clippings in various lengths
16 inch wire frame wreath form from local craft store or find similar one here.
Floral Wire in a dark color found at local craft store or find similar here.
Garden shears or scissors
Now, I realize not everyone has boxwood shrubs in the yard. If you don’t, my advice to you….. go ask your neighbor. I am pretty sure they won’t mind if you can clip away at their bush. And if they are anything like me, we actually trim our boxwoods a few times a year so clippings are abundant.
Steps to make a DIY Boxwood Wreath
Step 1- DIY Boxwood Wreath
Make sure you boxwood clippings are clean and pest free by shaking or rinsing off. Boxwood is patient once they are cut.The boxwood that I am using for this wreath, were cut 6 weeks ago. Notice the stems are still firm and have retained their green glossy leaves.
Step 2- DIY Boxwood Wreath
Step 4- DIY Boxwood Wreath
Continue working around the wreath form in one direction. You should layer and place the tips of the boxwood on the wire portion of the previous bunch. This will conceal some of the wires. When you have secured all of your bunches, take any small clippings and fill any gaps or holes by just tucking them in. If necessary, secure with wire.

I love this project! Unfortunately, we don't have any boxwood bushes though. I may need my husband to plant some though just so I can have my own stash! Thanks for the tutorial. I love how it turned out. They can be quite expensive if you buy these already made too.

I love boxwood. I went a little crazy trimming an overgrown boxwood bush at my inlaw's mountain house to make some wreaths of my own. I like your method, though. I hadn't thought of using a wire form. I'll try that next time around.

Your boxwood wreath is beautiful, and your directions are excellent. No boxwoods in my yard or my neighbor's yards, but my sister has two large boxwoods in the shape of balls on either side of the door to her greenhouse. Maybe she will share. 🙂
