Spring Time At Duke Manor

There is no place I would rather be, then outside at home, during Spring Time at Duke Manor Farm. on a beautiful Spring day somewhere on the property with my husband, children, and the critters. These pictures around the farm, capture the property around Duke Manor Farm …. what I love and what fills my heart.

My husband and I bought this property 13 years ago during a casual Sunday drive. Once we walked it we knew, well… he did. Fortunately my husband had the vision beyond what we saw that day. Where we would put the house, the shop, the garden…… but we both knew that this would be a place that we could raise children, enjoy the outdoors and create memories.

We bought these $15.00 Bradford Pears that looked like Charlie Brown trees at the time  and lined them along both sides of the driveway. Spectacular, but stinky sight in the Spring.

One of the dogs, Skippy. He was a stray that just showed up a few years ago in the
 backyard on East Sunday.

View from the back of the house to the lake. This is my husbands idea of a tire swing.
The lake is about 50 acres big.

Tilling the garden. This years garden got underway a few weeks ago. I am adding more fruits and cut flowers this year along with the usual veggies that we plant.

We added 5 new chicks to the mix a few months ago. They are getting so big. We currently separate the little gals from the big gal and will put them together once everyone is about the same size.

Paddle boating has become a favorite past time this year.

We turned the kids old sandbox into a feed shed.

Someday I am going to share our story on how we turned this thick, over grown, invested with prickly bush piece of property, so bad that we couldn’t even see the lake the first time we walked the land, into a real home where dreams are made and seeds are sown.

  1. I can't wait to hear your story, I grew up in Hart County so I know how beautiful it is, being in the middle of Lake Hartwell floating on a raft with no phones is the best vacation in the world.

  2. Your property must provide you with so much peace – it is very beautiful and special. I love when a person takes that leap of faith because something spoke to them, so they act on what their heart is telling them, and it all works out beautifully. Looking forward to reading the rest of your story.

  3. I can't wait to hear and see more! What a dream come true. We split our time between the city and a home in the country (also on a big lake) and I treasure my time there.

I bet the kids, dogs and chickens keep you busy! Beautiful garden! 🙂

  4. Thanks for sharing, your home is spectacular. I love the grounds and the tree tire swing is great!! A kid could swing there day dreaming for hours. Definitely can't wait to read your story. Happy life!!

  5. I had no idea how wonderful it would be living in country til we moved from crowded San Diego area (east county Santee) 5/92 to 20 acres on Canyon Ferry Lake in MT, 24 miles east of Townsend, 32 miles south of Helena. What a change. Once you live like that, at least for us, there's no going back to living in crowded city where we had a townhouse.
Your place is incredible, so pretty, and that lake, oh my. Why we moved away from MT I'm still trying to figure out. We moved to western KY area, outside Bowling Green where we had 1 1/2 acres with newly refurbished house by oldest son. The weather didn't agree with me so after 5 yrs. we moved to western CO, we're about 15 miles west of Grand Junction now on 1/2 acre with 5 chickens, a 16×80 single wide mfg. home. It's pretty expensive here after KY real estate prices especially. Not our dream home but what we could barely afford. At least we're not in crowded noisy city. Now that we're older 1/2 acre is plenty for two old folks (70's) to take care of.
I envy you having your kids grow up on that land, wonderful for all of you. Happy for you to have what you have, (well, maybe not the lake), lol. Enjoy your life, you work hard to have what you have. Look forward to hearing about your story, love that and sure enjoyed seeing photos. Happy week and Spring
