5 Thrifty Ways to Set a Beautiful Table

5 Thrifty Ways to Set a Beautiful Table using household items you already have on hand or that you can create easily

I love a pretty table, probably more then the food that is being served.  The table gets the chance to have a personality, have a  theme or get a bit dressed up. I especially love challenging myself to use items that I already have on hand or creating a beautiful table without spending a lot of money. Today I am joining the Thrifty Style team to share 5 thrifty ways to set a beautiful table.  The links for more creative thrifty ideas will be at the end of the post.

DIY Jute Place Mats

I love the look of a jute place mat on a summer or fall table. That added element of texture works well with a variety of styles. What I did’nt like was the price of the one’s I found at the store, so I made my own using old place mats from the Dollar Store and craft rope. They were super easy to assemble. You can see the full tutorial here.

Use Wrapping Paper as a Table Runner

5 Thrifty Ways to Set a Beautiful Table using pretty wrapping paper

Who doesn’t love pretty wrapping paper? Why not use it horizontally or vertically on your table. I love this idea when I have a themed table. Since the patterns and colors are endless when it comes to wrapping paper, you can never run out of ideas on how to style your table. Tip: I love a heavier paper and find that Hobby Lobby and Homegoods have a great selection and the paper is a nice weight. You can see more of this summer table here.

Create your  own using Craft Paper

5 Thrifty Ways to Set a Beautiful Table create your own tablecloth with craft paper

If you can’t find the perfect gold  tablecloth to match your gold charges….make your own. That’s what I did. I made this table runner using brown craft paper, a stencil and some craft paint. Although this is a bit more labor intensive because of the stencil design, it sure looked good. Click here for the instructions on how to make you own.

Use unused Curtain Panels instead of a tablecloth

When you want the look of a full tablecloth but only have a curtain panel, use that on the table. I had some panels that I never use and decided to use them instead of a table cloth. Worked out perfectly…..and my guests never knew.

Use left over Fabric to dress up the table

5 Thrifty Ways to Set a Beautiful Table using left over fabric

If you have a fabric stash that you are doing nothing with, then considering using it to set your next table. I hosted some pals for a fall brunch last year and wanted to use something on my outdoor table. I had some left over plaid fabric that was perfect for the table. Layering it across the table, I frayed the edges and it looked like it was meant to be. You can see more of my fall brunch ideas here.
