Wallpapered Bookcase

When  I made a decision to not wallpaper the entire wall in my home office and only go to the existing chair rail, it created a bit of extra wallpaper so I decided to turn my boring not so exciting bookcase on the other side of the room, into something with a bit of flair and interest ….well at least my office thinks so. Today I want to share 5 tips to know for your wallpaper project.

And although, certainly not an expert, I have put together my own simple steps for a successful wallpaper project.

Measure your entire area. Luckily I only need two runs down as this paper width was perfect for the width of the bookcase, So I cut a total of 4 pieces. I always put the paper in the space to confirm that it fits before I get it wet and apply it to the wall.

Prep bookcase.  I painted the bookcase sides white before I hung the wallpaper.  Painting first, will reduce any paint ‘oops’ from getting on your paper once its hung.

Installation of paper. I find the prepasted wall papers easier to work with. You can follow the same steps here that I used in Lily’s bedroom. Wet and go. Check the specific directions for your wall paper.

Most important step.  Smooth . Smooth. Smooth. Eliminate the wrinkles and creases by using a flat edge tool. Using a flat edge will ensure that you get all the air bubbles out.

Drying time. As anxious as you will be to get the shelves up and filled with stuff, give the paper the appropriate amount of time to dry.

  1. Your shelves look lovely. I'm considering fabric behind mine. I'm not a wallpaper lover…I've spent way too much time taking it down in houses I guess! Someone told me that if I had put some up before taking so much down, I'd probably not be so leery of it!

  2. I like the added pattern on the back of your bookcase. I am not a wallpaper fan in my own home though because I change my mind too much and it's too much work to change. So, I just stick with paint.
