3 Tips for Growing Gerbera Daisies Indoors

For the longest time I thought Gerbera Daisies would only do well outside in the garden. I was wrong. To my surprise they do amazingly well indoors too.

3 Tips for Growing Gerbera Daisies Indoors

About two months ago I purchased a few pots of Gerbera’s from Lowe’s for my Spring Home Tour that I was doing in early March. One night it got super cold and I brought them inside….and they stayed.  I love being able to see the colorful blooms inside the house. Although it’s been 2 months and the plants are not showing any signs of slowing down, I wanted to share 3 tips that are helping with that process.

Provide the right amount of light

Indirect bright light works well. Mine that I have in the kitchen area, get bright sunlight in the morning and indirect the rest of the day. Gerbera daisies love the Spring temps and can tolerate cool temperatures but won’t survive long in temperatures above 70 F.

Provide enough water

Water the plant thoroughly whenever the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Every few days I place the pots in the sink and let them drain thoroughly before I put them back on the saucer. Gerbera’s do not like to sit in soggy soil. When you water, try to avoid getting water on the leaves. As with a lot of plants, they just don’t like it.

Cut off blooms as soon as they wilt to keep the plant neat and controlled. Doing this will help stimulate more blooms as well.  I also remove and of the spent  leaves as needed. This helps to keep the Gerbera nice and healthy.
