Dressing a family for a summer wedding

We are heading out for a wedding this weekend for my beautiful niece on my hubby’s side. Dressing a family for a summer wedding isn’t something I frequently do. Our last summer wedding was a few years ago in Dallas when my oldest was a ring bearer.

This time, the twins are in the wedding, the flower girl and ring bearer. Total sweetness.  The wedding is in Arkansas….hot…humid…mids 90’s.  So trying to come up with nice attire that we all won’t look like a sweaty mess before the wedding even starts was important. Figuring what little miss would wear was easy….the bride gave me the link to the bridal shop and I hit enter. The rest of us….not as easy.

For the record my boys don’t get dressed up very much, a few times a year and that’s it. Dressing up to them would be a nice pair of shorts or jeans, a polo styled shirt and sneakers. They wear uniforms to school so they think they are ‘dressing up’ 10 months out of the year.  So I was pleasantly surprised when my 10 year said he wanted to ‘dress up’ and would wear something other then sneakers and a mine craft tee …which was a good thing since it really wasn’t a choice.

My little guy was asked to wear a white shirt and grey pants so I decided to make it easy and dress my other guy in the same style and just change the colors. I ordered everything on line from J Crew Factory Store and was super happy that the fit on the shirt and pants was spot on. The shirts are light weight so they will be perfect. Order to size.

Here’s some shoe options for the boys that I considered that I thought would be appropriate and that they would be able to wear again, which was important. Nothing like having a pair of black dress shoes in your little man’s closet that he will never wear again.  I ended up choosing the vans.

And there is me. My look tends to be classic and predictable. Not a lot of patterns, but I do like color. Here are a few dresses I picked out that seemed to take me outside of my comfort zone that were cute and stylish….while not upstaging the bride.

I actually decided on a similar stripe dress in the picture but in a v neck….. although I loved the long one, which is big for me since I almost never go sleeveless. I just don’t like my arms.  But it’s gonna be hot and I want to be comfortable. And in all honesty, I finally realize after all these years, my arms don’t define me and you probably don’t really even care about the shape of my arms…right?  What’s your hangup spot?  I did do a first…a spray tan, to help the farmer tan lines I have going on.

While feeling all confident and brave with my arm decision, I also decided to gift myself the first dress for a trip we are taking later this summer. Something about that dress just screams fun to me…….
