When a room just feels right….Quiet Room Reveal

Sometimes I find that I can be equally content and pleased with the outcome decorating a room, when I DON”T have a plan….and things just come together. Does that ever happen to you to? Minding your own business one minute, completely changing a room the next?

In the South we refer to the space right off the Kitchen as a Keeping Room, but lately I was referring to it as just a beautiful, light infused non functioning space.

When we designed the house, this space was going to house the kitchen table but opps…..our table was a tad bit too big. You can chuckle about that here. For years, I had a smaller table in here but found that I was not sitting at it much….at all.

So while we were working on the family room we decided to use this as a temporary space that the kids could watch Sponge Bob, hubby can watch the news and I can watch reruns of Property Brothers on HGTV. (I seriously do not like when they do the all day marathons, do you?) The TV has since moved out of this space and back in the family room, where the marathons continue.

We moved the leather club chairs from the family room into here, which are my husbands all time favorite ever……. so I needed to make it work or it wouldn’t be a happily ever after.  During a semi annual sale, I bought two amazing rugs at a ridiculously low price to use in my office.  You can see the one I used in my office here. Since I still loved the rug and at a ridiculously low price, I decided to keep it and knew that eventually it would find a home somewhere in the house.  I love the mix of blues and the pattern that this rug has.

I picked up the lighter blue color from the rug and used it on this wall which is the same blue that I used in the family room. This is the view looking into the kitchen.

Now, it’s turned into a space that I can sit and read while the kids play on the computer….which is more functional for the family, and not to mention quite comfortable for my husband.

I think I am just going to have to break Southern tradition and start calling this room the “Quiet room” ……and live happily ever after.

I’m living happily ever after in the room, but with another change. Click here to see the latest look and use for the space.

  1. Laura it is just stunning! I keep trying to talk hubs in to adding headboard or planking our kitchen or bedroom but he is having nothing of it. I even want to add planks in between our new wood beams in the living room but oh well. Baby steps I guess. Again your quiet space is just beautiful!

  2. It looks GORGEOUS, Laura! In our neighborhoods, we have a lot of homes with breakfast rooms, which I love. (They're not as big as yours.) Ours, of course, is not one of them, more's the pity.

  3. "A beauitful light infused, non functioning space…" Ha! I love that! Our keeping room was the same non functioning space and until we turned it into my office. Now it is where I spend most of my day. Your view though is much prettier than mine! Looks great Laura!

  4. Great idea Laura and there is so much light in this spot.

I'm with you about the marathon days. Why do they do that?

  5. That is such a great way to use that space! I love the cozy seating area with all of the windows and views. The computer desk area looks like a good set up too.

  6. You always do fantastic things with all of your rooms and this is no exception. And I love how you make every space "kid friendly". What a pretty view you have! And your furniture, rug and the basket with the throw…yeah, I could definitely curl up here and watch Fixer Upper!!
