Happenings around Duke Manor Farm

Happenings around Duke Manor Farm including a new dog, searching for a new goat and some new shades

Hello and welcome to another week. We are in summer vacation count down around here with my kiddos getting out of school on Friday. Yikes…… Where the heck did the school year go? Of course I am frantically running around trying to get stuff down so I can enjoy the break with them. You know, stuff that I should have gotten done 180 days ago when they started school.

I hope all of you had a lovely weekend and if you are a mom, that you got spoiled rotten. We were low key around here but my kids did their best to make me feel special. We started the day with some Peaches and Cream Crepes ( which I will share the recipe in a later post) and ended it with some steaks on the grill. Trying to assess the damage and see how all of that fits within my point structure. I am doing the Weight Watchers Flex program.

We added to the funny farm

On Saturday we picked up the newest member of the Duke Manor Farm family. Meet Maddie. She is a 14 month old, ‘sweet as can be’ silver lab. She belonged to some friends who couldn’t devote as much attention as they would have liked on her. They knew that our Bear had recently passed away and that I eventually would be looking for a new dog. Initially I was concerned how she would fit in with the rest of my gang but so far, so good.

Trying to find friends for Jack

You may remember about 2 months ago a goat followed my husband home from a jog. We named him Jack. As we have become more familiar with goats and ‘Jack’ we realize he needs more goat like friends. My friend has a farm down the road and we went over there the other night looking at possible prospects. Ideally I would like some female goats as I don’t intend to breed and I think girls are a bit less aggressive. How cute is this one?

Family room gets some shades

As I mentioned last week I am finally finished with the minor updates in our family room.  Yay. My one month project only took almost five months! One of those updates included getting some well needed shades for the east and west side windows.

Initially I only ordered two of these Bamboo Roman shades so that I could see if I liked them. I love them. For the price you can’t go wrong if you are looking for light filtering shades that look good. They are not black out but certainly provide enough shade in the room when lowered and to cut the glare on the tv. Last year I had paper blinds….needless to say, these fit the look I was going to so much better. I am waiting for the other two to come in and then will share the full reveal of my space. I also got a new accent chair when Wayfair had their big sale a few weeks ago. You can shop the chair here.

I hope you have a lovely week. I’ll be popping back in on Wednesday to share a easy and necessary summer project….especially if you do not want to be doing laundry all summer.

  1. I know you look forward to your summers with the kids

I laugh every time you talk about the goat following the hubby home

I think more goats would be good. No one likes to be alone.

I adore the babies when I see them hopping.

    1. The only reason I agreed to keep Jack was because he will be good for our pastures. Goats are ….well different. Especially this one. I was never one to see goats in my future! I hope you are doing well. Did you do anything fun for your birthday?

  2. Glad you had such a great Mother’s Day weekend with your family! Those crepes look so delicious! I will look forward to you posting the recipe!
