Happenings and some Poison Ivy

Hey there! I just returned from a few days at the lake and a bloggers conference in Charleston.  Trying to get my kid time in, as well as a little time for me. This may be shocking to most of you mama’s  ( especially if you don’t live in Georgia) but my kids go back to school in 2 weeks. I know right! In all fairness we get out of school mid May and have a 10 week summer break.  It’s good to be back and connect with you all.

Happenings at the Lake

lake view
Douglas Lake in East Tenn

This is the view off the deck at my sisters lake house in east Tennessee. Stunning, right? You can see more of the house here.  Unplugging for a few days is such a gift….besides, there is no cell service. Our lake trip is a tradition and summer break wouldn’t feel right without spending time here. What’s great about this lake besides it’s beauty is that it is not crowded…at all.

Project Fail

Right before I left for the lake I decided to finish painting the walls  in our media room. As I was picking up my drop cloth and putting the lid on the paint can…..this happened. If anyone asks, it’s graffiti art on the floor. I’ll share more about this space in a later post when I can stop the tears from flowing.

happenings and paint on floor
That would be white paint on my black carpet!

Around that same time, I started to discover little red itchy welts on my legs, arms and face. I knew right away what it was since this isn’t my first time getting poison ivy. Unfortunately I seem to have a bad reaction to it and require steroids and ointment from my doctor. It’s a week later and it’s gone from my face but still remains on my arms and legs. No fun at all. Please tell me you’re a lucky one?

Summer Dresses I couldn’t pass up

Wanting to look cute for summer, without the red welts of course, I picked up a few summer dresses from Nordstrom Rack. Besides all being pretty, they were all under $30.00.

I have two more weeks of summer break to enjoy with the kids. I’ll be back to my regular posting schedule when they go back to school. Until then, I hope you are enjoying the long days of summer. I know I am. You can see last week’s happenings here.

  1. That lake view is amazing, but oh my – Poison Ivy – that stuff really get to me too. I swell and itch like crazy.

  2. The lake house is incredible.
I am so sensitive to poison ivy I have to go to the doctor for shots. And it hides everywhere here! Yuk! I feel your pain (and itches!) My MD told me the same substance is in cashew nuts and mango skins, so be careful around those if you are very sensitive to poison ivy. And I love your floor grafitti. Bet some collector would pay good money for that artwork. Not so much fun when it is on the carpet though. You can tell I have suffered through the same mishap, but fortunately my carpet was almost the same color as the paint.

  3. I am very allergic to poison ivy, too. I too have to get a shot and meds to get rid of it. One time my eyes swelled shut. Beautiful lake!

  4. I also have a severe allergic reaction to poison ivy. My pool lady recommended Tec Nu. Can be bought at Walmart. Helped a lot.
