How to use mustard yellow in your home decor using pillows, throws, and other home accents. The color that plays well with just about any color palette.

I was looking online last week for something and I stumbled across the prettiest shade of mustard yellow towels. They were beautiful. The color has been in my head ever since, although I have been a fan of this color for quite a while. In fact, my living room and dining room were painted yellow/gold when I first moved into my home 20 years ago. I even had mustard yellow drapes and a mustard color sofa!

Years later, it all started back up when I picked up some pillows that were mustard yellow. I hate when that happens…wink, wink. In case you are wondering after the yellow, I painted the Living Room gray. It seems that my color choices were a predictor of the paint trends to come, even way back then.

I love how the color mixes well with just about any color palette and style. The color evokes such energy and instantly warms up any room I use mustard yellow in. You can see what I mean in this space.

How to use mustard yellow in your home decor

If you are looking to introduce mustard yellow into your home here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

Balance – a little goes a long way with this bold pop of color. If paired right it should balance out with the other colors in the room.

Start small– Not sure…. introduce the color in an accent piece in your space or step it up by painting or wallpapering a small accent wall.

What works with Mustard Yellow– Just about everything. It can be paired with other earthy-toned neutrals, added to rooms with vibrant pastel colors or paired with grays, blues or black.

Mustard Yellow Decor Options

I began looking for other ways to bring mustard yellow into my home decor and put together some items to consider…if you like the mustard color as much as I do. You can add as much or as little as you want and still get that same effect. A burst of sunshine in any room you place it in.

Funny, I alway thought I hated mustard (guess from my dislike of seeing rooms with heavy mustard walls and ceilings in the past, just not my style), but I love, love, love the color the way you have used it. Think I will have to do some shopping for a mustard pillow or throw. Thanks fo ranother informative post.
