January Favorite Things

January Favorite Things  that I am loving this month for me and for around Duke Manor Farm

An awesome mug

I try to start my day with a positive attitude each morning…..a little reminder doesn’t hurt especially with my morning tea in this mug. I just picked this up at Target last week. I love the size of it ….27 oz. By the way I am not a coffee drinker….just hot tea with fat free french vanilla creamer.

Houndstooth Blanket

I shared my bedroom the other day here and had a few people ask about my houndstooth throw on my bed. I actually used a gift card from Christmas and bought it from Pottery Barn. It’s a perfect neutral blanket with a print on one side and sherpa on the other. Talk about cozy.

These Pillows

Late last Fall I picked up these pillows for my family room. I love the ‘vintagey’ vibe that they give off. They are also super soft. I’ll hang on to the red’s in the space until Spring.

The best houseplant

Last summer I gave you a tip here on how to take a store bought hanging plant and create 3 plants out of one. The plant that I shared was called an asparagus fern. When I tell you that this is such an amazing indoor or outdoor plant….it is. During the winter I brought a few of them inside and they are providing such wonderful color and texture in whatever room I place them in. If you are looking for a great houseplant , this is one you may want to consider.

Insulated Travel Mug

I was looking for a decent insulted travel mug that wouldn’t break the bank  and was a decent size without being oversized. I picked this one up before the holidays. For the price you can’t beat it. It is as good as other pricey insulted mugs that I have had.

My favorite Instant Pot

I shared a recipe the other day here and mentioned that we use an instant pot quite regularly. In fact when my oven broke last year it was our main source of cooking meals. Although the oven is now working (i got a new one), we  have 2 pots and love to cook in them. This pot was what got me through months of not having an oven. At some point I will share some of my favorite dishes using the instant pot.

I traded in my Converse Chucks for these

It seems that wearing my chucks for a lifetime may have done a number on my right foot. Months ago I had to have a steroid injection for an inflamed nerve between my toes and now I will need surgery. Not entirely sure it is directly related but my doctor said I would be doing myself a huge favor to find another pair of shoes with more support. So I retired the chucks  ( sad, but I needed to)  and went out and both a few other pairs. I seem to be wearing these the most.

  1. I love my new instant pot. I got the 8 qt and may get a 3 qt for side dishes so I don’t have to wait to cook each dish. Hope your surgery goes well.

  2. Hi Laura,
I have been following your blog for over a year now & love it. I saw your post about your converse chucks & your foot problems. Before you go out and have surgery on your foot, please email me for some info on a wonderful all natural product that my husband & I have been taking. I no longer need cortisone injections on my wrists & fingers for carpal tunnel & arthritis & my old injury on my ankle doesn’t bother me anymore. I know it can help you too! If you email me, I will give you some info on it. Thanks!
