Duke Manor Farm Notables Vol 5

I realized that I said my notables would be published on Saturday….but can I use the excuse that  I forgot what day it was? Honestly I have been knee deep in projects around here (that I can’t wait to share with you) and with the beautiful weather this past weekend, we were outside doing chores around the property. It’s fairly common that you will find out sitting out back alot when the weather warms up like it did this past weekend. I took this picture of the back of the house and thought it looked pretty all lit up. My hubby and I were having date night by the fire pit. 🙂

Farm Life

I told you a few weeks ago that we picked up 3 new goats. They are settling in well and love to eat. My two youngest are  actually doing some research and thinking about starting a business selling goats. As  ambitious as that sounds ( and proud of them for thinking like that), I think my Lily would have a hard time saying goodbye to any animal on the farm. We will see how that goes.

What I am reading

I recently picked up Suffer Strong written by a husband and wife ( Jay and Katherine Wolf) that I have been following on instagram for some time. Their story is so inspirational and moving. Of course I wake up to this book everyday and can’t recommend it enough. It’s the perfect dose of motivation and storytelling to get your day going.

My latest project….well one of the latest

I am working on refreshing our Den. I have wanted to replace the cover on the my IKEA Ektorp sectional for some time now. The original was looking worn and tired so I bought this replacement cover on Amazon and LOVE it. It looks like a brand new sectional for a fraction of the cost. The quality, color ( it comes in multiple colors) and fit are just perfect. As soon as I have my act together and finish the entire space I will share the reveal.  You can see my review of the Ektorp sectional here.

My Grocery Store Flower Tip

I have mentioned this before and it’s worth repeating. When you are in the floral department of your grocery store, don’t be afraid to ask if they have any blooms that they are getting ready to mark down. Floral departments would rather mark it down and sell it to you then throwing spent blooms away. The thought of that just makes my flower loving heart cry. I bought some hydrangeas that were marked down for .50 a stem a few weeks ago, and paired them this week with roses that hubby brought home from the store. Having fresh flowers around the house just make me so happy.

I am really looking forward to spring and summer when I can cut my own blooms from the property. Until then, enjoy your week!

  1. Laura, your yard looks so beautiful at night! Glad you and hubby can sit by the fire and just enjoy the evening.

We have snow until April and, as I write, we are getting snow and it’s going to last for 3 days. Oh! I am so looking forward to Spring. In the meantime, I am enjoying the fresh flowers from the store!

Those goats are so cute! How nice to be able to have all these cute creatures on your farm. So nice for your children to be able to care for them!

    Have a blessed week!
