6 ways to use a throw blanket in your home besides for just staying cozy and warm.

Nothing screams Fall like a cozy throw blanket, especially good affordable throw blankets in pretty autumn colors. Whether to keep cozy or to merely add a splash of fall color to your space, a throw blanket can add lots of style…and use to your Fall home.

6 Ways to use a throw blanket in your home

There are many ways to use throw blankets. Not only can you use them to keep warm but you can also style them over chairs, couches, and benches. In addition to the obvious purpose of a throw blanket, there are also a few unconventional ways to use throw blankets.

Table Runners

I don’t own many traditional table clothes but no problem, I have plenty of throw blankets. Depending on the thickness of the throw blanket, it can work wonderfully as a tablecloth or table runner. I find that a runner works better than a tablecloth because most throws are smaller than the table.

To use as a table runner, fold it to the desired width and place it in the center of the table. I like to bunch it up ever so slightly so it doesn’t look so perfect on the table. I love how my plum throw blanket complements the darker color blooms in my arrangement.

Use outdoors

Using throw blankets outdoors requires you to use the proper throw blanket. I like to use stadium or travel blankets ( they are super inexpensive) for open outdoor seating. They are smaller and easier to store and clean.

I tend to use my indoor throws on my covered outdoor areas. I just bring them in and wash them when needed. Draping a throw over the outdoor rockers on the front porch instantly creates a more welcoming vibe, don’t you think?

On a couch, ottoman….or floor

We are throw people, so you will find plenty of blankets in our family room. If blankets are not on the couch, ottoman or floor…let’s be real, I like to place them in baskets. I roll them up so they look neat and are ready to go when needed.

Drape over an accent chair

Draping a throw blanket over an accent chair in my dining area is more decorative than functional… unless someone gets cold while eating. Placing it on the back of the chair helps to soften the space. It also adds a ton of texture and color to a space.

Use as a tree skirt

I remember the year I was doing a tree with blush accents. I could not find a tree skirt that worked. No worries, I own a pink throw! Just drape the throw around the tree stand to easily conceal and coordinate with your tree accents. Since then it’s been a fairly common practice.

On the foot of a bed

Adding a throw blanket to the foot of a bed can create a more curated look for your bedding. I like to mix and match my pillows with my throws so things coordinate on my bed. Having a neutral base allows me to change things up seasonally as well.

Style Tip when using throw blankets

I like to incorporate at least one color in a throw blank with a pillow in the same color. I added an olive green waffle throw to use with the green pillows. Layering the throw blanket in, just enhances the color in a rather neutral setting. Using a rust-throw blanket would have also been a great option as well. It would have brought out more rust color in the room.
