How to care for Miniature Rose Plants Indoors

When we think of Fall blooms we generally think of Mums, Coneflowers, and Sedum. I realize there’s a bunch more, but these are some of the most common and popular ones we see in the garden and in our fall arrangements.

Although I love the colors like orange, burgundy, and yellows that fall blooms bring us, I will always crave the sight and smell of a pretty white rose.

I was in the grocery store the other day and they had these miniature rose plants on sale.  I decided to pick up a couple to use indoors. As you know, there is no shortage around Duke Manor Farm property of my favorite knock out roses. This summer I used them in my planters on the patio. However, Miniature rose plants are something that I have not grown around here….until now. Aren’t they gorgeous?

Tips on how to care for Miniature Rose Plants indoors

Tip 1

Miniature Roses need as much direct sunlight as possible while the plant is growing. It goes dormant in the winter. Place your plant near a window or area that receives a lot of light.

Tip 2

Water your plant thoroughly every couple of days. Let the plant dry out between the waterings. Make sure to not overwater. As with most plants and watering, try to avoid getting water on the leaves. Doing so will create black spots.

  Tip 3

Your rose plant will do best in a room with an average temperature of 60-75 degrees. Although roses are cold hardy plants, they do need protection from the frost. If you do have them in containers outdoors, make sure to protect them. Roses in the ground do not need the same care when it gets cold.

Tip 4

When repotting your rose plant any good potting mix will do. Make sure the container you use has holes on the bottom for drainage if in the event you should overwater.

  1. Indoor miniature roses equals spider mites for me. Good luck with yours! They are my favorite roses outdoors, even Japanese beetles avoid them.

  2. I love miniature roses and I’d never considered having any other flower for Christmas other than a poinsettia . I think the white roses would be beautiful because I’m also going to try my hand at flocking my tree this year (big dreams for Christmas).
