DIY Leaf Bowl

I wish “crafting” came easier for me…… but sadly it doesn’t.

If it did, I would have created this leaf bowl 5 years ago when I first laid eyes on it. But this year I decided to conquer my fears with using mod podge and assemble all my fall leaves around a balloon, to create this super cute fall bowl.

 Supplies needed~

bowl
balloon
mod podge
water
small pin
small brush
assortment of leaves ( I used 2-3 packs of prepackaged leaves from Dollar Store and a few other leaves I had on hand)

Step 1

Place balloon with the tie side down in a semi-shallow bowl. This will help to create the shape of your bowl.  Bowl is used as a holder while you are layering the leaves. In a separate bowl mix 2 parts mod podge to one part water.

Step 2
Begin layering your leaves around the balloon. Brush your mod podge/water mixture on a leaf and place on the balloon. Once it is secure and in place, brush another coat of your mod podge/water mixture on your leaf.
Did I tell you this is a messy project! Place your bowl on some newpaper for easy clean-up.
Step 3
Continue the layering process until the balloon is covered with the leaves. I used 3-4 rows on my bowl. Once you are done let it dry overnight.

Step 4
Take a small pin and pop the balloon. At this point, your bowl should still be flexible enough to shape. Now you are ready to fill with candy, flowers or anything else you want.

Step 5
Sit back and wonder why in the world it took you so long to make the bowl!
Is there a project that has taken you 5 years to do?

  1. Oh yes, indeed – I actually wrote out a list of those type of projects and it was quite long! I get inspired, run out and buy all the supplies and then get bogged down before even beginning. So I am encouraged to revisit that list and see what happens!

  2. Ooh I love this – the colours, texture everything about it, thanks for sharing, will be giving this a go whilst the leaves are still these wonderful hues!

  3. Well, aren't you just even more fabulous than I already thought you were ?! LOVE this idea … need to go grab some leaves!

  4. Lovely idea. And I guess it takes time to accomplish Great Ideas such as this one…
I'm glad you didn't made it 5 years ago because I wasn't here yet… see? always a bright side on postponing… this is JUST the right time as I'm preparing for a Autumn Lunch with the in-laws. I'll share the WOW's with you – it's just fair.
    Thank you for inspiring,
Teresa (who's now going to visit your Fall porch)
