Watermelon Cocktail Recipe

Because it’s so very hot and dry these last few weeks the Duke Manor Farm garden is about to go on strike and close down….everything except the Watermelons that is.

They, being the watermelons, seem to be minding their own business and thriving despite the pitiful conditions of the cantaloupe, beans and cucumbers that surround them.#pleaserain

If there is one vegetable,or fruit depending on who you ask, that my kids devour it is the Watermelon. And the chickens and Daisy Mae love it too, including the rind. So I say all this to let you know that we plant plenty of watermelon, because we all eat plenty of them throughout the summer.

As I was cutting one up for the kids one afternoon, I decided to make a cocktail using the watermelon juice for dad and I. This watermelon cocktail recipe is so easy and will be perfect for your next summer party or gathering.

Watermelon chunks or watermelon juice to yield 1 cup. You can either muddle the watermelon in a glass or throw it into a blender. I use my Ninja to juice it down.

Something I recently learned, did you know that the rind of a watermelon is actually very good for you? Yup, the rind contains  plenty of health-promoting and blood-building chlorophyll, as well as amino acid , which is so important for your heart and immune system. Something else, watermelon juice is known to relieve sore muscles. Who knew!

Cheers to a great summer and to good health!

  1. I wish I loved watermelon. Everyone I know loves it, but I’m weird! We have had a rather good bit of rain and it is pouring now. We watered the new sod yesterday because the last two showers were very light so we were getting a bit dry and we can’t lose our investment. Funny how we have had rain and it has been missing you just a few minutes away. We have had it rain down the street and not here. Rain is fickle!

    1. the other day we thought we were gonna get the shower of the summer and all’s we got was thunder and lighting. not a drop. It’s so depressing to see everything so dry. lukily I have sprinkler around the house but my yard and pastures are pitiful. lunch next week?

  2. Sounds easy and delicious! Enjoyed your post and other than one small “Pop-up” in the beginning…the rest of your article was pristine, and that was a treat!

  3. Looks yummy, like summer! And nice to serve both with and without vodka for a crowd! Got good rain here in Hall County last night, but usually just lots of clouds, thunder and lightning and wind, a couple drops and it blows elsewhere. Steve Bender, aka Grumpy Gardener has hilarious blog on the fickle rain on the Southern Living blog The Daily South, “Why it never rains at your house” if you have time to jump over and read it!

  4. It’s such a bad summer for all the gardens,So dry and no rain no matter where you live. Hopefully next year will be better. Love watermelon so I love your cocktail recipe and so easy, thanks for sharing.

  5. Looks delicious! Wonder if I can skip the simple syrup as I only eat sugar when I have a little piece of dark chocolate, other than that I quit it years ago. Tea is so much better without it and healthier for you too. Once you quit the sugar it’s really hard to handle it again.
