Cabinet Painting Master Bathroom

Of all the DIY projects that I have done around here, stripping and prepping cabinets for painting is not on the top of the list of favorites. Not that it’s a tough project to tackle, it’s just time-consuming and suffice to say I want this project done! Because I want the cabinets to look amazing and last as long as possible, I’ve decided I  am doing it right this time and start off with a clean slate to paint on. The previous paint job was done with the intention of it being very temporary until we did a full reno in the bathroom, but that didn’t quite happen.

The easiest way to remove layers of paint

I am using this product and this method to get the majority of a couple of layers of paint off the cabinets.  I used it on this project and it was a godsend.  Since I am filling the holes from the existing hardware ( the new cabinet handles are bigger) I will use wood putty before sanding the entire cabinet down. I’ll use my orbital sander ( 120 ) and give the cabinets a quick once over. A good clean off and then I will be ready for paint. I am using Agreeable Gray in a Satin Finish on the cabinets. The same color is on the walls but at 25% so there would be a slight contrast but the same color.

When the cabinets are done I will be installing new pulls and knobs. I got these knobs and these pulls in a brass finish.  They will be a good complement to the new brass mirrors and lights that I added.

I wish I had more to share but taking it one cabinet at a time.

Enjoy the long weekend! You know what I’ll be doing.
