Simple Sunday Vol 1

Simple Sunday Vol 1 includes random thoughts, pictures, and happenings around Duke Manor Farm.

Over the last 11 years that I have been blogging, I always seem to get requests to see more around the property and the animals around Duke Manor Farm. I never thought it would garner so much attention and interest, but it has. So a couple of times a month on Sunday, I will share simple random thoughts, simple pictures, and maybe even a simple project around Duke Manor Farm. Welcome to my first Simple Sunday post!

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Fall and COLOR. It is my favorite time of the year. Duke Manor Farm sits on 25 acres in Northeast Georgia with a good number of trees, so it’s just such a beautiful time of the year. We are pasture in the front property and a small lake on the backside. You can read more about the history of Duke Manor Farm here.

Duke Manor Farm lake

circa 2000 on the front of the property, which is now pasture

When we first walked this property over 20 years ago, we had no idea this lake was even here. Good thing we discovered it. My youngest gets the most enjoyment out of the lake as he is quite an avid fisherman.  We have worked hard around the property to create beautiful spaces and memories for us and our children. God willing, for many years to come.

Simple Sunday Vol 1 goats

To think our herd of goats all began with a jog. If you don’t know the story, years ago my husband was out jogging and a goat followed him home. After a year we decided to get a few females…… this is the result. We have since stopped reproduction and intend on selling off a few. If you are local and interested please DM me.

Did you know that goats:

1. Goats don’t graze on grass. This is because they are browsers and they prefer eating fruits, shoots, leaves, shrubs and plants.

2.  Buck is the name used for adult males and Doe is for adult females. Male baby goats less than a year old are known as ‘Bucklings’ and ‘Doelings’ is the name used to refer to female baby goats less than a year old.

3. ‘Kids’ is the term used to collectively refer to baby goats. Did you know that the term ‘kids’ was used to refer to baby goats since 1200s?

The goat that followed my hubby home is on the right. Big Jack is what we call him and he is quite the stud if you know what I mean.:)

duke manor farm porch

I put out some fall-colored pillows the other day…even though it’s 85-90ish today. You can see last year’s Fall porch here. As you can see the Kimberly Fern that I planted in April is still growing like a beast. This is a must plant for your porch or patio. You can get more details here.
