Creating a Small Room Workout Space

I’ve been posting a few progress shots of our new workout space on Instagram but realized I never shared the details of what I am doing to create a small room workout space. Don’t worry, you haven’t missed the full reveal as it is still a work in progress.

This room has some history, so buckle up. When we first designed Duke Manor Farm, this room was intended to be my husband’s office. It served in that capacity for a few years until kids came along and their playroom( which today is our den) was right outside his door. You get where this is going….we needed to move him. We created a home office for him above our garage that he now uses.

We then turned the vacant space into a sweet little guest room. Albeit super small, it worked for our overnight guests for a few years. As Lily got older and had a need to have a dedicated space to do her artwork, we switched up the space again and turned it into a teen girl art space. It was fun while it lasted.

Which leads me to where we are today. Here are my plans to turn this bright and multifunctional room into a small space workout room. Isn’t the lighting in this room incredible ?

Plan for our Small Space Workout Room

What I’ll do to transform the room

  • Paint the walls Light french Gray. I love this shade of gray. This is the same color that I have in our downstairs den and gameroom.
  • Since I don’t want a sea of just gray and white in this space, I want to incorporate a pop of color. Initially, I was going to put this wallpaper on the ceiling but that turned out to be more challenging then I thought to apply. I love hanging wallpaper ….just not in a upside down position. I have since used the wallpaper in our Den and absolutely love it.
  • Incorporate color into the room by painting the ceiling blue. I matched up the blue in the wallpaper and picked out Blissful Blue from SW. It’s such a fresh and happy color.
  • Hang mirrors on the wall. I went with two full lenght mirrors that I picked up at HomeGoods. This was a less expenisve option then going custom with one large mirror. Here is something similar that I found.
  • Use the same shelves that were in the room and fill them with some artwork and plants.

My goal is to create a space that the entire family can use. We have already started to use the workout room even though it’s not completely finished. Oh, if you are wondering about Lily’s art room, we moved all her stuff into the craft area above our garage. We will be giving that space a makeover down the road. First it’s time to workout!
