Whether you’re team traditional or love a modern color palette, you’ll find plenty of inspiration (and maybe a few ideas to try this year!).

Classic Navy and Copper Tree (2021)

Bold color combos for a modern farmhouse tree

This tree is proof that navy + copper is a match made in Christmas heaven. The mix of deep navy, white ornaments, warm metallics gave the whole room a rich, elevated glow. I tied everything together with classic white lights.

Soft Blush and Metallic Tree (2018)

A feminine, calming color palette

This is one of my softest, prettiest Christmas trees to date. Blush pink, champagne, silver, and rose gold ornaments created a romantic glow in the living room. Paired with wrapped gifts in matching tones, the whole space felt airy, elegant, and peaceful.

Bright & Cheerful Multicolor Tree (2020)

A playful, family-friendly look

This vibrant tree used every color—pink, red, blue, green, gold, and more. It instantly brought joy to the room and was a hit with the kids (and honestly, with me too!). The key to making multi-color work is repetition—lots of each color sprinkled evenly throughout the tree.

Traditional Memory Tree (2024)

Mixing sentimental ornaments with fun patterns

This tree was filled with family memories—the kids handmade ornaments, favorite keepsakes, and special pieces collected over the years. I mixed polka-dot ribbon, classic red and green, and lots of whimsical shapes for a cheerful, nostalgic look. Spoiler alert: I did basically the same thing on this years family tree.

The playful paper chain garland is a nod to childhood crafting, and the topper adds a burst of whimsy with its curly, colorful sprays. It’s the perfect tree for a playroom, teen space, or anywhere you want a punch of holiday fun.

6 Tips for Decorating a Tree

Easy strategies you can use every year

Here are a few tried-and-true tips I use on every tree:

  • Start with more lights than you think you need. It’s the foundation of the whole look.
  • Cluster ornaments in groups of 2–3 for fullness.
  • Use ribbon in layers—loops, tails, or cascading pieces.
  • Mix finishes (matte, shiny, glitter) for depth.
  • Add unexpected elements like florals, berries, bells, or picks.
  • Balance your colors by stepping back often.

Christmas trees are personal, sentimental, and magical—and they should feel like you. Whether you’re drawn to bold color, soft neutrals, or nostalgic ornaments, I hope these Christmas tree decorating ideas will spark something fun and festive in your home this season.

Happy Holidays!
