The Margaritaville Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee

The Margaritaville hotel is centrally located in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee and is one of the areas newest ….and nicest hotels.

If you are heading to Gatlinburg Tennessee and need a place to stay, you may want to consider the Margaritaville hotel. We have been visiting the Gatlinburg, Tennessee area for years. It’s easy to get to, a nice drive through the Smokey Mountains and enough in the area for the family to do. Typically we stay at the Hilton Garden Inn which is clean but an older hotel. One year I made the mistake of  booking at a different hotel to try something new and didn’t last a night.  I should mention I am a hotel snob. For a couple years we actually rented some beautiful homes on the mountain before we had kids and didn’t need to be near all the attractions and people. Now we like to be right in the middle of all the action and be able to walk to everything in the town.

I was thrilled (my kids not so much when I wanted to take their picture)  when the Margaritaville Resort in Gatlinburg opened for business in the summer 2018. The town definitely needed a few new, nice hotels. During our ‘Holiday memory making trip’ in December we stayed at the hotel for a few days and I was so happy to stay in not only a new hotel but a pretty one as well.

The hotel was built on some vacant land near the Ripley’s Aquarium and opened in 2018. It is on the riverfront side of town and walking distance to everything in downtown Gatlinburg. With about 160 rooms it has a very laid back and casual vibe, inspired by Jimmy Buffet. I should mention that there are two resident parrots in the lobby.

Accommodations

I found that the One Bedroom Suite with two queen beds had ample room for my family and at a decent price. Since we went over the holidays the prices were a bit higher but I still felt it was worth it. ( I think I paid $250 a night which by Gatlinburg standards is high) The adjoining room had a sleeper sofa and a small area to eat with a kitchenette. The bathroom had a shower that was one of the biggest and nicest that I have ever seen in a hotel. In addition to the rain shower it had multiple shower heads and sprayers.  The beds and lines were nice and comfortable….. as seen below.

Amenities/Food/Bar

The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool along with a hot tub, which is probably all you really need when staying here. I didn’t get a chance to check it out but there is also a Spa on the property that looked nice. There is a small cafe/grill as you enter the hotel that served quick meals, food to go and drinks. The food was decent but I felt it was slightly overpriced. ($150 for a few appetizers, burgers and a couple of sandwiches)

Despite my overpriced grill cheese sandwich ( albeit good) , we will definitely book another stay at the Margaritaville Resort next time we are in Gatlinburg.  If you are heading to the area it is worth checking out. They have a property in Pigeon Forge as well.

  1. Thanks so much for doing a review of the newest Margarita Hotel in Gatlinburg. We haven’t visited the Smokies in several years so we are due a visit. We have stayed at a range of different lodging options over the years including cabins, condos and hotels. I like the privacy of renting cabins but many times the VRBO fees are just too steep so you really have to shop around.
My niece is getting married this October in Pigeon Forge so I will definitely check out the Margarita Hotel before I book.
