3 things I painted that really changed up the look in my kitchen

Before I get to the point of my post I want to say my thoughts and prayers are with the entire California community suffering such destruction and devastation with the fires and horrific shooting. Honestly, it’s tough to be happy and carry on knowing so many are facing loss of love one’s, homes and their communities.

As you know I enjoy making minor changes here and there to update my 16 year old home. Some necessary, some not so much. This is a not so much project. The last update I did was  turn my old dining room into a music room.  That was also a not so necessary update, although we NEVER used the room. We loved how the wall trim turned out so much that we decided to do it on adjacent walls in the entryway and living room.  I’ll share how that all turned out when I am finished. I did want to share a more simple update I did last weekend when I painted 3 things in my kitchen using a color called Web Gray from SW.

Fireplace Mantel

I wanted to draw some of the natural colors out of the stone around the fireplace. You may remember that the mantel was painted white a few years ago. The plan is to enlarge the mantel….but that hasn’t happened quite yet. My color choice was inspired by a project that one of my favorite bloggers made to her bookcase and mantel. You can see her project here. Although she used a color called Peppercorn also from SW, the two colors are very similar with a blue/gray finish.

Wood Wall

In my true “don’t stop there” fashion I decided to go ahead and add some additional contrast to a wood planked wall in the kitchen. I just love how the darker color really draws the outside colors in and how it looks against the white trim. One of the projects slated for 2019 is to enlarge this wall so we can take advantage of the views in our backyard. If you remember this area use to be a butlers pantry. Wanting more light we added the window a few years ago. You can see more about that here.

Tufted Bench

Here’s how it originally looked.

 Cabinets

And last but not least I painted the buffet cabinet that I have been working on updating for a few months now. I removed the upper cabinets and put them here, removed the feet and changed out the hardware to update the look. Here’s a peek on how the cabinet looks using Web Gray.

You can see more of the space in my latest Thanksgiving tablescape post here. What’s the last minor update you did to to your home?

  1. First, thank you for your comments on the California fires and shooting situation. The entire country mourns for the loss from the fire and unfortunately, most of us have had a shooting close to home and can relate to the shooting. Continued prayers for healing from both.
Second, these changes are wonderful! What a difference, especially in the cabinet. Amazing what a little paint can do. Excellent choice on the color too. Blends beautifully with the rest of your gorgeous home. Be well!

  2. Laura, I just love the colors you picked! They are perfect and everything looks so nice. We are in the midst of painting our oak mantel and it has been a hard decision to make as my dear hubby did not want to do this. Anyway, once we are finished painting, it will make such a difference to our Great Room!
Enjoy your gorgeous home! Have a great week!
We, also, are praying for all those dear souls in California who are going through such tough times right now. Our hearts go out to them. So horrible to have to go through something like this.
