Happenings at Duke Manor Farm Vol 3

Happenings at Duke Manor Farm Vol 3 include the finished project, new project, garden glimpse, and my new farmhand.

Hello Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. I was supposed to be bringing my mom back to Florida this morning, but the weather’s uncertainty ( I hate driving in the rain) has our plans postponed for later in the week. We have enjoyed her company for the last month and having an extra farmhand to take care of the animals….even if it was just for one feeding. I was able to catch the cutest picture of my mom feeding the goats the other day.

Finished Project

Meanwhile, I celebrated a win by crossing off a project from my list. My master bedroom is just about finished except for the furnishings. I’ll share the details of the entire project but basically, we took out a door, replaced it with windows, and painted the entire room. I was ready for a furniture change after 20 years so  I ‘gifted’ most of the furniture to a friend. For now, I’m using my old nightstands and my bed, sans a headboard until I find something that I want.

Upcoming Project

Speaking of furniture ….it’s happening. After 3 ish years of an empty room, I finally ordered some furniture for my living room. Delivery is set for mid-September so I am getting the room ready by refreshing the walls and trim. I recently got this ceiling fan, which I love. Since we are not  ‘formal’ living people, this room will be designed as a casual sitting room. Side note, if I had to build again, not sure I would even do a separate living room.

In the Garden

My garden is doing quite well this year, despite the hot temps and lack of rain. I am out there every day making sure it gets enough water, which lack of rain means fewer weeds to pull. This is my first year of taking the garden seriously and I look forward to planning next year’s gardens based on how well we did this year. I haven’t really shared much about the garden, so I will put together a separate post giving you more detail on my labor love.

In other news

I started this program over the weekend and looking forward to meeting my goal for a healthier lifestyle…and to fit comfortably in my jeans before winter shows up.

Still faithfully taking these daily

I wasn’t ready to drop big  bucks for a cordless vacuum, so I found this budget-friendly alternative

One of my favorite authors Kristy Woodson Harvey has her latest book on pre-order. I can not wait, as I’m such a big fan of all her books.

Going ‘Glamping’ next week in Tennessee! I can’t wait to share my experience of staying in an open-aired treehouse for a few days.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with Happenings at Duke Manor Farm Vol 3.  Have the best week ever!

grateful

for time with my mom

  1. Might want to take a look at an unusual bed posted to another blog (southernhospitalityblog.com) -the ‘Tommy Bahama Twin Palms’ bed (also as showcased on the HGTV dream home last year) and available via Bellacor.

  2. Your Mom’s photo is hysterical. Hungry animals can be intimidating, even if she is just KIDDING around. (punn intended) Love what you have done! It is so bright, fresh, clean and a blank slate! I have just done similar, White with Black and Mustard color accents and love it, it’s just very me. BTW- If you’re looking for some stunning wood furniture that will last and is Breathtaking yet simple and clean, Try Woodleys Fine Furniture and they ship. It’s very worth the wait. Have fun!
Btw, I avoid driving in the rain also. Enjoy your Mom a few more days.
