Holiday Readiness Checklist
The holidays sneak up fast — especially here at Duke Manor Farm, where our fall projects roll right into twinkling lights and cozy nights by the fire. It all happens so quickly too! Wanna know one of the the best gifts you can give yourself this time of the year? A home that’s calm, ready, and already prepped for the magic ahead.
“A little preparation today means more memories and less stress tomorrow.”

I just love this picture from this Holiday Home Tour. My girl still helps with the tree every year.
This is your step-by-step holiday readiness checklist to help you entertain with ease, savor the quieter moments, and enjoy the season instead of scrambling through it.
Holiday Readiness Checklist
Home Preparation
Small tasks make the biggest difference when guests arrive and schedules get busy. I like to tackle small tasks in manageable chunks until everything is done. Going at it all at once can add additional stress that you don’t need.

Focus Areas:
- Declutter high-traffic spaces
- Deep clean kitchen and bathrooms
- Vacuum and mop floors
- Clean windows and mirrors
- Get your table lines ready
Clear spaces create calm energy — and a calm home sets the tone for a peaceful holiday season.
Guest & Gathering Prep
Even if you don’t have overnight guests every year, creating a welcoming space adds charm and intention. This small space was always so fun to decorate for guests.

Checklist
- Fresh linens for guest beds
- Add a cozy blanket and extra pillows
- Stock bathroom with toiletries & fresh towels
- Empty a small drawer or closet space
- Set up a simple guest coffee/hot cocoa spot
Seasonal Decor Setup
There’s nothing like the warm glow of holiday decor — but prepping ahead makes decorating joyful instead of rushed. Besides, we deserve to sit back and enjoy all of our decorating efforts.

Checklist
- Bring decor down early
- Sort, purge, and donate unused decor….I do more purging each year.
- Replace lights & check extension cords
- Create a decorating plan by room
“Layer holiday decor slowly — start with the feeling, then add the details.”
Kitchen Prep
The kitchen becomes the heart of the holidays — give yourself a head start.

Checklist
- Clear out fridge & pantry
- Stock baking essentials
- Organize serving platters & utensils
- Create a holiday grocery list
Tip: Prep freezer meals or just breakfast casseroles to lighten the load during busy days.
Gift & Supply Organization
Keeping gifting organized equals less last-minute stress.

Checklist
- Create a gift list (family + hostess gifts)
- Stock wrapping supplies
- Order personalized holiday cards
- Set up a wrapping station
It doesn’t need to be extravagant — it just needs to be thoughtful.
Outdoor & Entryway Prep
Your front entry sets the tone before anyone steps inside. It’s typically the first area that I tackle when I begin my holiday decorating. I can’t wait to use the ribbon lights that I added last year.

Checklist
- Add seasonal doormat & wreath
- Sweep porch & shake doormats
- Place firewood close by
- Add lanterns or string lights
- Check exterior lights and timers…before putting hanging them up.

My Final Thought
The holidays are about presence, not perfection. Prepare your home with intention so you can enjoy the moments that matter most. I actually got our tree up yesterday. Not entirely sure when the decorating will start but at least the tree is up and the bins are waiting for me. I am probably doing something similar to last year.

Here’s to a peaceful, cozy, beautifully prepared holiday season at your place — and mine.
